Talk about an astronomical talent jump in two years, and that's without even seeing the names of Carrasco, Knapp, Hagadone, Barnes, Graham, Price, Marson, & Donald.
That's not even naming the breakouts like Cook, Espino, Nuno, & Popham, and other potentials like Brito.
Let's just hope we can stay with a boatload of talent, even when these guys are playing in Cleveland.
You ain't kidding. It was tough to make a legit Top 10 two years ago in 2007.....and this year I can't figure out who to not put in the Top 10. Our 20th ranked guy this year may be as good as the #2 guy in 2007. It's a credit to the recent drafts and obviously all the talent acquired in the trades over the last 17 months. That said, they NEED this talent to be real and do something at the big league level and not die out at AAA or when they get to the bigs.
Adam Miller, does he even crack a top 30 list anymore?
-Clay
Regarding Miller, hell yes. He should even still get consideration for Top 10....though think he'll fall into the teens on many lists purely because of his questionable status. A lot more will be known on his status in the next six weeks....but if he looks to be on his way back there are still few if any better pitchers in the organization.
I see. I only ask because at some point, given the injury history and his age (incredibly "old" 25) doesn't he begin to lose his lofty prospect status?
In a perfect world, since he's had something close to a year off now his elbow is nice and rested and his hand is reconstructed out of steel. Then he becomes that top flight starter like the legend was once told.
Factoring injuries/health is always tough when doing these rankings. Do you take injury into account and what their status is for the year, or do you assume the player who is rehabbing comes back and will perform better at some point in the year or a year down the road?
Miller is a great talent, but has a questionable future because of the finger injury. More will be known about him by the end of December (hopefully) so we will see.....but I think his talent still has to be considered and until said otherwise you have to assume he comes back at some point this year. And for that, you gotta put him in the Top 20 and maybe even the Top 10.
Will you be updating this with the 2010 list? I like to refer back to players a few times during the season and the only way I currently see how is to click through the post archive. Great work by the way, really appreciate an alternative to BA.
Yeah, I had this on the list to update this weekend and early next week before the season starts.
we need to add BO GREENWELL and JASON SMIT to the top 30s list. these two guys can flat out play. they r the two best pure hitters in the organization. both are going to find their way to the big leagues
Hopefully, a few of the young arms will mature a little faster. Alex White and Nick Hagadone are both a little long in the tooth to put on a 4 year track to Cleveland.
Too bad about Lewis. Let's hope its simply precautionary.
Adam Miller? No updates...anything, any word, how about an interview?
Anthony Reyes? How is he progressing? Odds of him being a factor in 2011? Is he tracking a 2010 comeback?
Ambriz? Who goes down?
Jordan Brown? What value does he have with the glut of left handed bats? Wouldn't he have to take a lefties spot on the roster? Other than giving Hafner a rest as DH, where could Brown fit in?
In regard to Adam Miller, I did an update on him in spring training about a month ago (nothing has changed since). Here is the piece: http://www.indiansprospectinsider.com/2010/03/goodyear-notebook-314.html
Reyes is not expected to pitch this year, and if at all comes back in late August or September. I don't see him remaining in the org after this season. I have checked into his current status so will update on the site (Twitter) what I find out if anything.
Ambriz will be here sometime in the next week unless we comeplete a trade so we can officially option him to Columbus. With Wood coming back, Wright is first to go and then one of Smith, Laffey, Lewis, or Sipp are optioned out for Ambriz.
Brown could fit in at left field if LaPorta is DLed. The Indians are strongly considering DLing LaPorta, so Brown may be an option to fill his spot. Him hitting left-handed doesn't really matter....I mean yeah you want a balanced lineup, but the whole lefty thing I think is overblown. You actually want a left-handed heavy lineup since 70-75% of the pitchers are right-handed anyway.
still think you should add Bo Greenwell to this list. The kid is absolutly tearing it up this year.
This is a fixed listing so it won't change for this year....but if Greenwell keeps it up this year I see no reason he won't make the Top 30 next year. He was in the 40s this year.
