It all started on June 20th, 1971 when Rick's dad took him to his first Indians game. It was Father's Day, Bat Day, and a double-header against the Tigers and his 7th birthday. There were 50K+ fans at Cleveland Stadium that day and between games they asked everyone to lift their bats to count them (he never saw that many fans there for an Indians game after that). That's when his love affair with baseball started. This Stark County native grew up rooting for the Indians. Although he moved to the Atlanta area in 1984, the Indians stayed number one in his heart. “I love baseball on all levels. I've coached youth and travel baseball, and have a step-son that will be taking his baseball talents to college next year.” Although he grew up in the era of the designated hitter he is probably an anomaly in that he has really grown to appreciate the non-DH game (in fact he prefers it).
