2013 Indians 16th round pick: OF Mark Payton
In the 16th round of the 2013 Draft the Cleveland Indians select outfielder Mark Payton from the University of Texas.
Born: 12/07/1991 – Height: 5’8” – Weight: 180 – Bats: Left – Throws: Left
Baseball America: 499th
Jeff Ellis: Payton killed it this year. He has a legit hit tool and a great eye. The issue he has is he is extremely small, and I found one site that had him listed at 5'7". He has little to no power, but all he did for Texas was get on base and he was their best hitter. He should sign, but where does he play? Scouts get stuck on the height and middling tools, but the bat will play. If you can deal with an on-base percentage outfielder with no power he might just surprise some people, and maybe he could handle third where that is more acceptable. Worst case a lot of pitchers will have a hard time finding his strike zone.

Zoilo Versailles and Luis Aparicio would take exception.
I guess the Ozzies would not have a chance today given the new paradigm for middle infielders: fat, lumbering guys that K a lot.
