2013 Indians 5th round pick: LHP Sean Brady
With their 5th round pick in the 2013 Draft the Cleveland Indians have selected left-handed pitcher Sean Brady out of Ida S Baker High School (FL).
Born: 06/09/1994 – Height: 5’10” – Weight: 182 – Bats: Left – Throws: Left
Baseball America: 184th
Perfect Game: 215th
Tony’s quick take: Brady is the first prep player the Indians have selected in the draft and he has a commitment to the University of Florida. He turns 19 in a few days, so should be eligible for the draft again in 2015 as a draft-eligible sophomore if he does not sign. He is in the low 90s with his fastball and gets it up to 93 MPH, and seen a big spike in his velocity from his junior season in high school. He mixes in a curveball and changeup that could both at least be average offerings, and the curveball is a plus offering and his out pitch.
Jeff Ellis: Sean Brady is a small lefty. He is six feet even and has mostly sat in the upper 80's, but had a small jump to low 80's/early 90's. He commands his pitches well, but with his size I am not sure he is really projected to add much more velocity. He has two solid secondary offerings, but his size really limits his upside. The Indians are looking for sub six foot players in this draft apparently. His ceiling strikes me as a backend starter, and he is committed to Florida so I imagine it will take full slot to sign him.
The 6’1”, 185-pound lefty went 7-1 w/a 0.68 ERA (51.2IP, 104K) for the District 6A-13 runner-up Ida Baker Bulldogs. The 19-year old University of Florida commit was recently named the Fort Myers News-Press All-Area Baseball Player of the Year in addition to being named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 18 Most Valuable Player.
