After taking the final two of a short three-game road trip in Miami, the Indians returned home to start the most important series of their season against the division-leading Tigers. The home team controlled the first eight innings of the game in just about every facet, but one pitch in the ninth changed everything. The IBI's Kevin Dean provides his second thoughts on the punch in the gut loss from Monday night.

After a quality sweep of the Rangers, the Indians welcomed a down and selling White Sox team to town for a four-game set. The run of quality starting pitching continued, but the visiting team pitched just as well, resulting in a grind-out battle all the way. Tied late, a record-setting walk-off home run sent the Indians to their fifth straight win. The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his second thoughts on a thrilling late inning win for the Indians...

Following a disappointing series in Minnesota to start the "second half" of the season, the Indians traveled far west for a three-game set with the Mariners. As was the case in the two losses against the Twins, the team pitched well enough to win, but the offense just couldn't do enough to make it stand up. The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his second thoughts on another disappointing offensive effort.

The Indians went into their four-day vacation during the All-Star break with a fine record of 51-44, putting them a game and a half back in the division and three out of a wild card spot. In this edition of Second Thoughts, the IBI's Kevin Dean looks toward the second half by analyzing the remaining schedule and wondering about ways that they can play even better than they have.

After dropping the first two games of this series to the Tigers in hopeless fashion, the Indians still had a chance to split the four-game wraparound on Monday. The offense managed just two runs, but were well within position to win it throughout, thanks to mostly quality pitching. Down the stretch, it was a series of questionable coaching decisions that helped lead to a brutal loss. The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his "second thoughts" on the tough loss for the Tribe.

A few days ago, Grantland's Andrew Sharp put out a wonderful article that recapped this year's NBA Draft, which was perhaps one of the most ridiculous drafts in the history of any sport. He chronicled the event using a 1-10 scale, in an "ascending curve of crazy." The IBI's Kevin Dean loved the concept, and in the spirit of the Indians' wild ride of a season thus far, he thought he would apply it to such on this off-day edition of Second Thoughts.

After a strong homestand that righted the Indians' ship, they hit the road for 11 games, starting with four in Baltimore. Ubaldo Jimenez lasted just 5.1 innings and got hit out of the park twice, and the offense didn't score until the sixth inning. They came on in a big way in that sixth, though, taking a lead that the bullpen would never relinquish and won 5-2. The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his second thoughts on the game...

After a well-documented brutal 20-game stretch, the Indians had seemingly gotten themselves back on the right track, winning four out of their last five (and it could have just as easily been all five). They began a set against a surging Royals team Monday night, backed by a recently-freed Carlos Carrasco. He turned in one of the best starts of his young career, but the team was lacking in all other facets and another brutal loss was suffered.

The Indians got a little bit of what they had been looking for on Monday as Scott Kazmir pitched well and Carlos Santana delivered a key, three-RBI base hit. However, the strong pitching and clutch hit were not nearly enough as a three-run seventh inning by the Texas Rangers doomed the Tribe and brought their losing streak to eight games. Join the IBI's Kevin Dean as he offers his Second Thoughts on the latest Indians loss.

The Indians' tough nearly month-long stretch of games continued on Monday as they traveled to New York behind their ace. Said ace turned in a rare poor start, an All-Star likely hobbled his way onto the disabled list, and the team's struggles against the Yankees and the American League East in general continued. All of that added up to a loss and Kevin Dean shares his "second thoughts" on the game...

The first meeting of the two Ohio teams in 2013 produced a great game and the foundation for an interesting final three. When all was said and done, the Indians found themselves on the short end of the stick (a recent trend), thanks to their reeling bullpen (another recent trend). The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his "second thoughts" on what was yet another tough loss for the Indians...

For the second time in as many weeks, the Indians put themselves in a position to sweep an ever-difficult four-game series. In a game where their starter got through just three innings and their three impenetrable backend relievers all faltered, naturally, they pulled it out. In game-winning fashion. Again. Kevin Dean shares his second thoughts on a thrilling come from behind walkoff 10-8 win for the Indians.

Monday at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario featured a traditional doubleheader against the Yankees, and a few people were actually there to see it and everything! The Indians scored a grand total of one run, but managed to split the day, thanks to the team's best pitching performance of the young campaign. The IBI's Kevin Dean provides his "second thoughts" on the matchup...

The Indians got back on the winning path on Monday as they belted four homers and beat the Athletics, 7-3. One of those four homers was a gigantic moon shot of a homer off the bat of Mark Reynolds, who got sweet revenge after he had just been hit with a pitch in an earlier at bat. Also, Ubaldo Jimenez was good for his second straight start. The IBI's Kevin Dean talks about that and more...

Who was that masked man? That was not the Ubaldo we have all come to loathe, and to his credit he pitched a wonderful ballgame and helped the Indians cruise to a much needed 9-0 win and more importantly finish the road trip with a 5-4 record. Ryan Raburn got into the action and clubbed two home runs, Carlos Santana continues to sizzle, and Asdrubal Cabrera looks to be heating up. All of that and more in today's "second thoughts"...

Justin Masterson has been sensational so far this season, and while he was not on his A-game last night he still battled and worked his way through seven innings and hung around just long enough to earn the win. Asdrubal Cabrera came through with a big two-run single in the eighth inning to put the Indians up 3-2 and the Bullpen Mafia did the rest to preserve a much needed Tribe win against a division rival. The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his "second thoughts" on the game...

The Indians were off on Monday, but the IBI's Kevin Dean used the opportunity to dig into the team's advanced numbers 11 games into the season. Even though the sample size to date is small, you have to start somewhere when looking at stats. The information in the data so far aligns very much with what has been seen on the field.

Baseball returned to Cleveland yesterday. Optimism surrounding the Indians was in the air and everywhere to be seen downtown. That is, until Ubaldo Jimenez fell into a familiar set of bad habits, and a familiar face crashed the annual party. The IBI's Kevin Dean breaks down the game and gives some "second thoughts" on what he saw in the Indians home opener loss.

The World Baseball Classic came to a close on Tuesday night when the Dominican Republic defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 to win the WBC crown. The Indians featured five active players, and with the tournament over the IBI's Kevin Dean reviews the performances by all five players in what was really an exciting, well played tournament.

The Indians avoided a series sweep at the hands of the hated Tigers thanks to some good ole Progressive Field late inning magic where they scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and won 7-6 yesterday. Losses like that this late in the season can be crippling to teams fighting for a playoff spot, so even if was a meaningless win for the Indians it was still nice to see a little spark from them, and against a division rival to boot. Kevin Dean shares his thoughts on the game.
