The 2014 season has been a comedown for Cleveland so far as the team has been below .500 after making the playoffs in 2013. As always there have been highs and lows for the team, but overall the team has gotten a few more negatives than positives. As always, Jim Piascik brings you a snapshot of each player's performance to date as he ranks the roster at the quarter mark.

Sometimes baseball can be a vicious, what have you done for me lately business. You can ask Scott Barnes about that side of the game. The left-hander was one of the top prospects in the system as recently as last season, but Barnes' struggles in 2013 left him dropping in the rankings and in the major league pecking order. The talent is still there for Barnes, however, as he showed Thursday. Join Jim Piascik as he details Barnes' dominant showing, Matt Carson hitting the ball well, and much more as he takes you Around the Farm.

No matter how often we see that April stats have little predictive use for the rest of the season, it is hard not to react to someone's extreme highs or lows out of the gate. Following about as bad of an April as you can see, it was easy to pile on Ronny Rodriguez. But Rodriguez's recent hot stretch is yet another reason why we cannot make any profound judgment on April stats. Join Jim Piascik as he writes about Rodriguez's powerful day, Tyler Naquin hitting the ball hard, and much more as he takes you Around the Farm.

For the first time this season, The WAR Room is bringing you the 2014 advanced stats for every Cleveland minor leaguer. Now that we have about five weeks of the season in the books, the numbers are starting to look like something we can use. This week Jim Piascik takes a look at the hitters throughout the system, including Francisco Lindor's torrid start with the RubberDucks, Jesus Aguilar's powerful surge in Columbus, and much more.

Some nights, nothing of note happens on the Cleveland sports scene. Others go absolutely crazy (and I'm not just talking about the glorious arrival of Johnny Manziel). The big league team got a win Thursday, but the minor leagues were filled with great performances as well. Adam Plutko put together the best outing of his career, Francisco Lindor hit a huge grand slam, Trevor Bauer continued dealing, and that is just the beginning. Join Jim Piascik as he recaps it all and takes you Around the Farm.

Following a down season at the plate in 2013, it seemed like Roberto Perez was hitting the wall. But the new season brought Perez health and a reinvigorated performance as the catcher is enjoying the best offensive season of his professional career. Join Jim Piascik as he analyzes Perez, the continued emergence of Jordan Milbrath, and the rest of the action Wednesday night in the minor leagues as he takes you Around the Farm.

For one final time, The WAR Room will bring you the advanced statistics from the 2013 season. Starting next week, we will begin evaluating the 2014 stats, as at that point the number of games played will be enough to yield useful stats. Join Jim Piascik as he looks back one more time on 2013 and brings you the advanced statistics for the Carolina Mudcat and Lake County Captain hitters.

While attending a game at Canal Park this season, fans can "ooh and ah" at the fastballs popping in the high-90s on the scoreboard radar gun. Same with the visible, knee-buckling break of a curveball or slider. But the changeup is a less noticeable and understated element of pitching. Changeups may not be as sexy as fastballs or breaking balls, but they play a key role in a pitcher's development. Jim Piascik recently spoke with a collection of Akron RubberDucks pitchers and coaches about changeups, how each pitchers throws it, and what makes it so useful.

Some nights you just have it. Thursday was certainly one of those nights for Josh Tomlin, as the right-hander was simply dealing. Tomlin had it all as he continues to make his case for a promotion to Cleveland. Clint Frazier also turned some heads, and though he is not making a case for a promotion to Cleveland, the center fielder had an important first Thursday. Join Jim Piascik as he writes about Tomlin, Frazier, and the rest of the action in the minor leagues as he takes you Around the Farm.

With Columbus and Carolina off for the day and rain knocking out the RubberDucks' game, the Lake County Captains were the only Cleveland affiliate in action Wednesday night. With one team going, Jim Piascik used this opportunity to break down each Captains player's night, including Robbie Aviles continuing his walk-less streak, Eric Haase flashing more power, and much more. Join Jim as he takes you Around the Farm.

To start off The WAR Room, Jim Piascik will be going back to 2013 and going over last year's performances. Since we are nearly to the point of having enough minor league games in the books to have useful stats, he will be finishing the 2013 retrospective early (to get to 2014 sooner), bringing you all of the Akron, Carolina, and Lake County pitching stats today. Join Jim as he analyzes Cody Anderson, Cleveland's best minor league pitcher in 2013, other impressive starters like Joe Colon and Shawn Morimando, and much more.

When it comes to prospects, everything is easier when the top guys are performing the way they are supposed to. Such was the case Thursday night as top prospect and shortstop-in-waiting Francisco Lindor put on a show for the RubberDucks. Though, as Jim Piascik cautions, just because Lindor is highly rated and has a strong reputation does not mean he is ready for Cleveland just yet. Join Jim as he breaks down Lindor, looks at how Carolina starter D.J. Brown is seizing his opportunity, and much more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Jose Ramirez, power hitter? The International League has been kind to Ramirez so far in 2014, as the infielder has put on an uncharacteristic power show. But Ramirez reminded us of the other parts of his game Wednesday, showing off his wheels and on-base ability. Join Jim Piascik as he analyzes Ramirez's night, Dorssys Paulino's talent shining through in Lake County, and much more as he takes you Around the Farm.

To start off The WAR Room, Jim Piascik will be going back to 2013 and going over last year's performances. Ideally this is something that would happen in the offseason, but since he was not able to compute these stats earlier, they have to run now. Join Jim as he goes over the 2013 Akron Aeros/RubberDucks, a team that was filled with high-end prospects like Carlos Moncrief, Jesus Aguilar, Jose Ramirez, and many more.

In Adam Plutko's first start, he had the run prevention without the dominance. In his second start, he had the strikeouts, but not the run prevention. So what happened in Plutko's third start Thursday night? The 2013 11th round draft pick and College World Series champion put it all together. Join Jim Piascik as he looks at Plutko's overall brilliance, a few notable season debuts (including Clint Frazier day), and much more as he takes you Around the Farm.

Thanks to some bad weather Tuesday night, Akron, Carolina, and Lake County had doubleheaders Wednesday. With seven games on the slate throughout the system, there was plenty of action on the minor league front. Join Jim Piascik as he breaks it all down, including yet another dominant Trevor Bauer start, Ryan Merritt continuing to put up strong outings, and much more as he takes you on a lengthy trip Around the Farm.

The Akron RubberDucks made their first appearance at Canal Park over the past week, debuting their new mascot and the rebranded franchise (for pictures from the event, see the article IBI had on Saturday). Unfortunately for the RubberDucks, the team dropped four of seven over the past week, falling to 5-6 on the season. There were still great performances from Bryson Myles, the left-handed relievers, and much more. Join Jim Piascik with the weekly Akron notebook, Burning Tread with the RubberDucks.

The Akron RubberDucks debuted their new name and logo at Canal Park Thursday night, playing in front of their home crowd for the first time. Since the vast majority of IBI's readership probably was not there, Jim Piascik captured many of the sights of the spectacle, which you can see inside. Join Jim as he takes you through a day at Canal Park and the 2014 RubberDucks home opener.

As a soon-to-be 24-year-old just now debuting at Double-A, Joe Wendle is bound to have some questions about his future. So far in 2014, Wendle is doing what he does best to answer those questions -- hitting -- and Thursday night was no different. Joining Wendle is a catcher in Lake County continuing his development, some rough pitching performances throughout the system, and much more. Join Jim Piascik as he takes you Around the Farm.
