The DWL playoffs began this past week, and to the surprise of many, the Indians' Carlos Santana was a participant. Santana had been manning the hot corner for Leones del Escogido this winter, but it now appears as if that has changed. Midway through the first playoff game, Santana was moved from third base to first base, and he has remained there ever since. Could it be that the Carlos Santana third base experiment is coming to an end? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he touches on that and more in the latest edition of the Winter Ball Notebook.

It was a busy week in the Caribbean winter leagues as the Dominican Winter League's regular season came to a close, and the playoffs will begin shortly. In other news, Carlos Santana continued to work on his move to third base and Joseph Colon had another brilliant outing. Plus, Tyler Sturdevant continues to turn heads as he works his way back from shoulder surgery. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he touches on these items and more in the latest edition of the Winter Ball Notebook.

It's December 20, and there still has been hardly a whisper heard about Ubaldo Jimenez? The starting pitching market has been slow to develop, and there are no signs as to where Jimenez may ultimately land. The big right-hander played a key role in the Indians' 2013 postseason berth, and it seems probable that he could still re-sign with Cleveland. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he chimes in on why the Indians need to re-sign Jimenez in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

It was a busy week in the winter leagues, and perhaps no story was bgiger than the ongoing dispute taking place between Leones del Caracas and the Cleveland Indians in regard to Jesus Aguilar. Aguilar has been almost unstoppable this winter, but could his season be coming to a close? The winter season really picked up this past week as a handful of Indians players helped lead the Surprise Saguaros to the AFL title. Leading the charge for Surprise was outfielder Tyler Naquin, who really had a brilliant fall season in the AFL. He's been criticized throughout his minor league career, but could he now be taking that next step as a prospect. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he discusses as part of the weekly Winter Ball Notebook.

The 2013 season saw two different Zach McAllisters pitch for the Cleveland Indians. There was the first-half version, who seemed to be well on his way to cementing himself as a rotation regular, and then the second-half version, who struggled to pitch late into games and seemed afraid to throw breaking pitches. So what can the Indians expect in 2014? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he opines in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

With the offseason now in full swing, we know that one of the Indians' top priorities will be re-signing either one or both of Ubaldo Jimenez and Scott Kazmir? But what if the team does indeed lose both players to free agency? Who should be the team's target then? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he presents his case in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

The Indians wasted little time starting their offseason yesterday as the team quickly parted ways with closer Chris Perez. So, what's next for the Tribe during the Hot Stove season? One of the most interesting storylines to follow will be what the Indians ultimately decide to do with shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera. The switch-hitter is coming off a rough 2013 campaign, and could now be the time to deal him? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he opines on the topic in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

The MLB season has come to an end, and the Hot Stove season is still a bit cold. So, knowing that, what's an Indians fan to do? Of course, the logical answer is to follow all of your favorite prospects in the numerous winter leagues. So far, Jesus Aguilar has gotten off to a torrid start in the VWL while Tyler Naquin has been impressive in the AFL. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he touches on these performances and more in the latest edition of the Winter Ball Notebook.

Jesus Aguilar has been one of the most impressive Indians' prospects this fall and that continued Saturday as the big first baseman launched his fifth home run of the winter season so far. Also, Jose Ramirez was collected three hits en route to his first true great performance of the this offseason. We're just a short ways away from the MLB's Hot Stove season kicking into full swing. Indians fans are now free to speculate as to who the team will look to acquire this offseason. Of all the names out there, one of the most appealing is longtime Milwaukee Brewer Corey Hart. Hart missed the entire 2013 season with knee injuries, but could a healthy Hart be a good fit in Cleveland in 2014? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he tackles that question in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Help comes from all places in the Major Leagues. The Cleveland Indians got some unexpected help this past season as Yan Gomes and Danny Salazar came up from the minors and played an integral role in the team's playoff push. The Indians will likely need similar contributions in 2014, and probably one of the most likely candidates is first baseman Jesus Aguilar. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he opines on the big slugger in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

With the Indians now out of playoffs, Tribe fans are all turning their attention to one thing: free agency. The Indians as an organization have a number of notable free agents that they may want to resign, and perhaps none are bigger than right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez. After a brilliant second half, Jimenez is sure to be in for a hefty raise this offseason. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he opines why it should be the Tribe who ultimately give Jimenez his new contract.

The Indians completed a terrific season last week that culminated in a 4-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Wild Card Game. It's astonishing to think of the progress that has been made in one year under Terry Francona as the Tribe went from 68 to 94 wins. The 2013 season was filled with numerous ups and downs for the team, but everything is pretty much looking up for the future. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he looks back at the year that was in the IBI staple Notes From the Wigwam.

The Cleveland Indians' season came to an end Wednesday after the team was defeated 4-0 by the Tampa Bay Rays. While the loss was a tough one to sour, it's important to not discount the immense improvement made by the Indians in Terry Francona's first season as manager. It appears as if the foundation is now set for this team to be a contender for years to come. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he offers his perspective on the topic in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce you to your PLAYOFF-BOUND Cleveland Indians! The Tribe won six games this past week as the team's win streak reached 10 games. As it turns out, the Indians needed every one of those 10 wins as they finished just one game above Texas and Tampa Bay to claim the AL's top Wild Card spot. All attention now turns to Wednesday when the Indians will host the American League Wild Card Playoff Game. Until then though, join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he takes one look back at the amazing week that was in the latest edition of Notes From the Wigwam.

There are just three days left in the regular season, which essentially means the Indians could be a mere three days away from advancing to the postseason for the first time since the 2007 season. The 2007 team was a great team but ultimately fell short of achieving its goal of winning a World Series. Could this year's team fare better? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he continues to compare this year's team to the 2007 one in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

We've officially reached the stretch run. With just six games left to play in the 2013 MLB season, the Cleveland Indians' record sits at 86-70, and the team is in possession of one of the two Wild Card spots. It may be hard to believe, but the Indians actually control their own destiny moving forward. Things are certainly looking up for the Tribe and a lot of that has to do with the team's brilliant performance this past week. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps the week that was in the weekly IBI staple, Notes From the Wigwam.

With just nine games left in the season, the Indians now have a legitimate shot at making the postseason. Remember the last time we were here? In case you forgot, it was back in 2007, and the Indians came within a game of clinching a World Series berth. This current team may not be as highly regarded as the 2007 version, but as we've seen in the past, once a team makes the playoffs, anything's possible. How does this year's squad stack up to the 2007 one? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he ponders that thought in this week's edition of Orbiting Cleveland.
