An absolutely dominant pitching performance by the Carolina Mudcats led them to a 5-0 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Friday night. On the night, the Hillcats managed only two hits against the Carolina pitching. Right hander Robert Whitenack got the start for Carolina and dominated the Hillcats. Whitenack did not give up a hit in his six innings pitched.

After a day of roster moves, the Carolina Mudcats took an early lead against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans that continued to grow throughout the game and won 7-0. The shutout victory pulls Carolina within a game and a half of the Pelicans in the race for the second half division title.

The win allowed Carolina (26-19, 48-67) to clinch their first ever series win at Frederick. On the night, Carolina recorded 13 hits compared to only five for the Keys. Offensively, Carolina was led by right fielder Jordan Smith, who went 3-6 with two RBIs, scored two runs and hit a home run.
