On Wednesday there was another competitive balance lottery and once again the results were good for the Indians. There were 12 picks up for grabs between 15 teams, so three teams were shut out of the lottery. The IBI's Jeff Ellis provides his thoughts on the importance of the additional pick the Indians awarded and how the lottery works.

Since the last of the Indians top picks outfielder Mike Papi signed it is time for the IBI's Jeff Ellis to post his annual shadow draft piece. Every year Jeff waits for all of the signings in the top 10 rounds to be completed and then he goes back and does the draft how he would have done it knowing what we know now with the signing bonuses and month of play from players.

First round pick Mike Papi's college season ended last week and his pro career is set to kick off later this week. He is set to come to Cleveland on Tuesday, sign his contract and then report to Mahoning Valley sometime over the weekend. As is the tradition here at the IBI, the IBI's draft guru Jeff Ellis provides his yearly piece on the top player tools in this year’s Indians draft. This is a great way to look at who has the best tools from the players drafted and signed this year by the Indians and helps fans get an idea of what things to specifically look for when they watch these players as they come up through the minors.

One thing that is great about the new CBA and the bonus pool system is how much better the signing process and how it gets an extremely large percentage of draft picks out and playing within two weeks of the completion of the draft. In today's signing update, the IBI's Tony Lastoria notes a newly signed player that came out of nowhere, updates on who is left that may sign and the ones that definitely won't, and also provides some comments from scouts on four of the Indians later round picks.

The Indians nailed down two more high draft picks on Tuesday getting them to put pen to paper and officially releasing their signings. Also, news came out later in the day that another top pick had agreed to terms and for a well over slot bonus. The Cleveland Indians today announced the signing of outfielder Bradley Zimmer to a minor league contract. Zimmer was the club’s first round (21st overall) selection in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

The Indians have a lot of high profile draft picks in town this week to visit Progressive Field and be around the big league team and of course to finalize their contracts. One such high profile player officially came off the board on Monday as Justus Sheffield signed his deal with the Indians, and a few more should become official today or tomorrow. The IBI's Tony Lastoria is back in the saddle today after spending the last three and a half days at a state baseball tournament in Columbus. With that in mind, he uses today's update to get us all caught up on the news from over the weekend as the Indians officially inked a few players, agreed to terms with several more and got official word from some others that they are not signing - not to mention there is all kinds of other news surrounding unsigned picks.

Yesterday the IBI's Tony Lastoria provided signing updates on 19 of the Indians 42 draft picks from the 2014 MLB Draft. He has since been busy contacting people and today provides updates on 12 players, with four of them officially signed and four more who say they will sign. Four of the updates are on top 10 round picks and another four are on top 20 rounders.
