The Indians made a series of announcements on Wednesday afternoon as they made it official declining the club options for Travis Hafner and Roberto Hernandez and picking up the club option on Ubaldo Jimenez. The Cleveland Indians have hired Terry Francona to be their next manager, only a day after his interview with Chris Antonetti and Mark Shapiro. The Indians will make an official announcment on Monday afternoon.

The Cleveland Indians today announced that manager Manny Acta will not return as manager. The decision is immediate and he will not manage the team the last six games of the season. Bench coach Sandy Alomar will serve as interim manager for the remainder of the season.

The IPI has learned that the Indians have promoted rookie level Arizona shortstop Dorssys Paulino to short season Single-A Mahoning Valley. The move has not yet been made official by the Indians, he supposedly left Arizona yesterday and should join Mahoning Valley this week, likely in Batavia today or tomorrow.

Today the Cleveland Indians announced that Triple-A Columbus pitching coach Ruben Niebla has been named interim Major League Pitching Coach and has replaced Scott Radinsky who has been dismissed from his post. Niebla, 40, is currently in his 12th season in the Indians organization, having spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the pitching coach at Columbus.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers and the New York Penn League announced the 2012 NYPL All Star rosters today. The American League roster will feature five members of the Scrappers: second baseman Joe Wendle, infielder Joe Sever, right-handed pitcher Luis DeJesus, right-handed pitcher Jacob Lee, and catcher/first baseman Charlie Valerio.

The Cleveland Indians designated Johnny Damon for assignment today, ended a fairly controversial tenure that forced the former all-star outfielder into the field after two seasons in the DH-role. To say it was even a moderate success would be the overstatement of the millennium, and that's definitively not hyperbole. Good luck to you Johnny Damon in your quest to latch on to a playoff contender.

It might not be the blockbuster deal many fans were hoping for, but the Cleveland Indians were able to make some noise (more like a whisper) before Tuesday's trade deadline. The Indians acquired first baseman/outfielder Lars Anderson from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Double-A starting pitcher Steven Wright.

Today the Indians have announced that right-handed pitcher Roberto Hernandez, formerly known as Fausto Carmona, has been granted his visa by the U.S. Consulate in the Dominican Republic and is scheduled to arrive in Cleveland this evening. With the government's decision made and his return official, Major League Baseball handed down a three week suspension for age and idenity fraud. He is eligible to return on August 11th.

Giovanni Soto, the starting pitcher acquired in the Jhonny Peralta trade in 2010, pitched the first-ever solo no-hitter in Canal Park history. Soto, who has been alternating between spectacular and frustrating over his career, moved his record to 8-8 on the season. The 21-year-old dropped his ERA nearly a half a run, lowering it to 3.73. The Indians traded Jhonny Peralta to the Detroit Tigers for a soft-tossing, 19-year-old Giovanni Soto in 2010. Soto has gone under the radar since the deal, but things are likely to change after he pitched the first no-hitter in Akron since Jeanmar Gomez threw a perfect game in 2009.
