A monster seven-run first inning fueled the Columbus Clippers as they defeated the Charlotte Knights 12-9 Thursday to split the four-game series. After taking a commanding 7-0 lead in the first, Charlotte came back to tie the game in the top of the third. The Clippers kept battling, however, as they regained the lead with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Columbus Clippers finished their fifth week of the season capturing four wins in the six games played and are now 17-16 on the season. Matt LaPorta is back with the club and is off to a good start, Ezequiel Carrera has returned to his old stomping grounds, and TJ House has struggled some since his good debut several days ago. Balls flying out of Huntington Park in Columbus with one of the main culprits being a real blast from the past. An Akron starting pitcher turning around a season's worth of poor performances with a strong day in Canal Park. Few hits and fewer runs from the Lake County offense, letting down their pitchers. To figure out who these cryptic hints are referring to and find out all you need to know about the action in the minor leagues Wednesday night, join Jim Piascik as he takes you Around The Farm.

Aside from three solo home runs, the Clipper bats struggled against Charlotte pitching as they fell 8-3 to the Knights on Wednesday. Clippers left-hander T.J. House (0-2, 7.88 ERA) lost his second-straight decision after allowing five earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Right-hander Zach Stewart (1-4, 4.22 ERA) had a fantastic outing for the Knights. In the six innings he pitched, the righty allowed just one earned run on five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

After being selected as a No. 1 draft pick in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft by the Florida Marlins, outfielder Jeremy Hermida was one of the most highly-touted prospects in the sport. Unfortunately, things just never really panned out the way many expected them to. After bouncing around the league the last few years he found his way into the Indians organization this year and is off to a good start at Triple-A Columbus. The IBI's Ethan Day recently sat down with him to get an update on things are going...

Akron Aeros' right-handed pitcher Danny Salazar is presently 2-3 with a 2.67 ERA and a 51:10 K:BB. In three appearances from April 20-May 2, Salazar didn’t allow an earned run. On Tuesday, his final start with the Aeros, he tossed five innings against the Erie SeaWolves and yielded just one run. He is still working on his secondary stuff, but is expected to be promoted to Columbus in the next few days. Stephanie Metzger has the story...

The IBI Hot List is back for another week and recaps the hot (and some cold) performances in the Indians system over the past week. The top 20 performances over the past seven days are ranked with some commentary, and the five worst showings are also ranked with some commentary there as well. This week I take a look at the hot showing by shortstop Francisco Lindor, outfielder LeVon Washington, right-hander Jordan Cooper, outfielder Logan Vick and others, and then also look at the recent struggles of shortstop Dorssys Paulino, first baseman Jesus Aguilar, left-hander Shawn Morimando and others.

The Columbus Clippers squeaked past the Rochester Red Wings 3-2 to split the four-game series at a two games apiece. Right-hander Carlos Carrasco cranked out a wonderful performance for his first win of the season. The Venezuelan-native tossed six frames, allowing one run on four hits and fanned seven batters without issuing a walk.

The Rochester Red Wings must not have been informed that the Triple-A Homerun Derby is more than two months away. Powered by five longballs, the Red Wings cruised past the Columbus Clippers Saturday with an 8-2 victory.

It's only two games, but Matt LaPorta is doing his best to prove that he is all the way back after years of disappointment and injuries. The first baseman is making waves at Columbus and starting to turn some heads. On the other side of the spectrum, Francisco Lindor just continues to impress day-in and day-out, stating his case to move up with each great performance. For all this and more, join Arthur Kinney as he goes Around The Farm.

The 77 degree weather was not the only pleasant thing at Huntington Park on Saturday. Led by right-hander Joe Martinez’s astounding performance, the Columbus Clippers downed the Rochester Red Wings 5-1 in the second game of the series.

On Thursday, Matt LaPorta came back to action in a big way, while one of the top pitching prospects in the Indians farm system had a huge day in Akron. On the opposite side, there was a rough outing in Columbus, but the bullpen was able to limit the damage. Contributor Andrew Zajac recaps all the minor league action from around the organization and takes you Around the Farm, after the jump...

First baseman Matt LaPorta’s triumphant return to the Clippers lineup was not enough to earn his team the victory as Columbus fell to the Rochester Red Wings 7-6 Thursday. LaPorta, fresh off the disabled list after undergoing off-season surgery on his left hip, went 3-4 with a home run, two singles and two RBI. Red Wings right-hander P.J. Walters (3-2, 3.60 ERA) pitched a solid game, allowing three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in his 6.1 innings of work. Clippers left-hander T.J. House (0-1, 7.20 ERA), did not fare as well.

The Columbus Clippers finished their fourth week of the season capturing four wins in the six games played and now stand at 14-12 on the year. The Clippers offense has struggled in the early going as they have scored five runs or less in 20 games this season, and are 5-0 when scoring more than five runs. The best news from the week was the recovery of right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco who was hit by a line drive on April 25 against the RailRiders. Go "sailing" with Cameron Weimer in his weekly Clippers notebook...
