With both the Columbus and Akron offenses hitting the skids, Around The Farm needed some extra help to remain interesting Thursday night. Luckily the start of the Arizona League, the return of Lake County from the All-Star break, and offensive fireworks for Mahoning Valley provided some fodder for us. The night was highlighted by a Lake County catcher showing off his power in a big way. To find out who it is and all you need to know about the night in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik and go Around The Farm.

After Tim Fedroff tore up the minor leagues in 2012, many expected great things from the outfielder in 2013. Fedroff got off to a slow start, but that is never a reason to give up hope completely. Lately, the outfielder has been coming around and Wednesday night was no exception. To see exactly how Fedroff fared last night, which Akron outfielder continues to prove he needs a promotion, and the rest of the action in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik and go Around The Farm.

After shortstop Juan Diaz slapped a single into the left and third baseman Nate Spears followed with a perfectly-placed bunt single, the Clippers looked poised keep the game alive. That was not the case however, as Columbus failed to execute and eventually fell to the Pawtucket Red Sox 6-5 in 10 innings Wednesday.

The Clippers lead the International League in runners left on base and they definitely demonstrated that Monday as they were shutout by the Pawtucket Red Sox in a 4-0 affair at Huntington Park. The Pawtucket pitching silenced the Clipper bats all night long in a masterful three-hit performance.

The month of June continues to be a painful one for the Clippers who are now 32-34 after another losing week which saw the team go 2-4 in two series against Toledo and Gwinnett. The starting pitching has been throwing better as of late but if Columbus expects to contend for a playoff spot, the rotation will have to delve deeper into games to prevent late-season exhaustion in the bullpen. Ethan Day is here with his weekly Clippers notebook...

Pitching in his first game since sustaining a left oblique injury in a game back on April 28, right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed a scoreless 2 2/3 innings against the Gwinnett Braves Tuesday. After throwing 41 pitches (he was limited to 50), Matsuzaka exited the game and everything went downhill from there. Reliever Paolo Espino, Cole Cook and Bryan Price combined to surrender nine runs on 11 hits en route to a 9-2 beat down by the Braves.
