A late rally from the home team was not enough as the Carolina Mudcats rode an early lead to a 7-4 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash on Saturday night. Carolina starter D.J. Brown (3-7, 4.36) produced a strong outing in which he allowed just two earned runs off of seven hits over 5.1 innings. The right-hander walked one and fanned three Dash batters on his way to the win.

After going 6-9 in Lake County during 2013, few people, if any, saw a potential ace in Carolina Mudcats left-hander Ryan Merritt before the season began. That perception has certainly changed now. A 16th round draft pick in 2011, Merritt is having one of the best seasons in Mudcats franchise history, including before they were affiliated with the Indians. The IBI's Zachary Francis recently sat down and spoke with the talented lefty about his season...

Despite losing an early lead, Eric Haase’s RBI single in the top of the ninth pushed the Carolina Mudcats ahead for an 8-7 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash Friday. Carolina was in control early, with the Mudcats bats jumping all over Dash starter J.B. Wendelken in the top of the first. Yhoxian Medina opened the contest with a base hit up the middle before Yandy Diaz quickly put the Mudcats ahead with a two-run shot to right. Later in the inning, Torsten Boss doubled the advantage, unleashing a homer of his own to right plating Alex Monsalve as the Mudcats grabbed the 4-0 lead.

Clint Frazier and Carlos Moncrief highlighted the night for the organization on Thursday, but the pair are pretty different when it comes to their developmental status. As a young outfielder in Low-A, Frazier's performance on-the-field matters less than Moncrief's, who is an older player in Triple-A. Join Jim Piascik as he breaks down what that means in addition to recapping the rest of the action from throughout the minor leagues as he takes you Around the Farm.

Dominating pitching helped the Frederick Keys protect an early lead Thursday as they defeated the Carolina Mudcats 5-0 to avoid the series sweep. Brenden Webb gave Fredrick the early advantage in the top of the second, crushing a solo homerun to right off Carolina starter Adam Plutko as the Keys went up 1-0.

Now. We always want things now. Better sooner than later. Yet, when it comes to prospects, it is often about the long game. D'vone McClure's stock has fallen after two subpar seasons in Arizona, yet the outfielder is still only 20 years old. Dace Kime may be a bit older than McClure, but the 22-year-old is only in his first full professional season. These players are not supposed to be finished products, and looking between the lines, there are positive signs for both. Join Jim Piascik as he recaps McClure and Kime's performances and the rest of the action from throughout the organization as he takes you Around the Farm.

The Carolina Mudcats took an early 5-0 lead before beating the Frederick Keys, 6-2. Carolina's six runs came on just six hits as the Mudcats benefited from 10 walks dished out by the Keys' pitching staff. Yandy Diaz drew four of those walks on his way to scoring two of the six runs in the win. Ryan Merritt picked up his 13th win of the season after going seven strong innings.

The Cleveland Indians have had quite a few very good pitching performances throughout the minor league system this season. One such pitcher who has had a good year is High-A Carolina right-handed starter Adam Plutko. The IBI's Tony Lastoria talked to him earlier in the year and discussed his transition from a successful college career to the pros.

Carolina jumped ahead in the top of the second as Eric Haase’s first Carolina League homerun put the Mudcats ahead. After Alex Monsalve walked and Joe Sever singled up the middle, Haase sent Matthew Spann’s offering over the leftfield fence as the Mudcats went up 3-0.
