So how on Earth could Cleveland not finish negotiations with current #1 starter Justin Masterson and keep him long-term? That is the question on everyone's mind this morning after news broke Thursday night that extension talks between Masterson and the team are over. But what if Cleveland is making a reasonable decision? Jim Piascik takes that unpopular opinion, looking at how the extension negotiations went and why not getting a deal done is actually a rational, if disappointing, conclusion.

It was a tale of the good, the bad and the ugly Wednesday afternoon at Goodyear Ballpark. Things looked good early on for the Tribe, as Indians hitters jumped to a three run lead through the first four innings against Oakland. Despite a fast start, that would be all the scoring for the Wahoo's in this one, as the Athletics outscored the Tribe 13-0 over the final five frames to pickup an easy 13-3 win. After yielding five earned runs in the ballgame, could Carlos Carrasco now be on the outside looking in for the final spot in the Cleveland rotation? IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz shares his thoughts and recaps the action.

Despite the 49ers scoring a touchdown (with a missed PAT), kicking a field goal and recording a safety, they were no match for the leg of Billy Cundiff, who kicked four field goals in the Browns' 12-11 win. At least that's how tonight's score could be interpreted in football terms since it doesn't make all that much more sense as a baseball score. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he recaps Tuesday's late-night slugfest in Goodyear.

Corey Kluber and Zach McAllister are, at first glance, quite similar pitchers. Both were acquired in a trade for a role player, neither were widely-heralded prospects, and their 2013 ERA's were almost identical. But they are actually quite different when you look at their strikeout and walk rates, and in the research that the IBI's John Grimm collected they appear to be different in not just throwing strikes but hitting the targets give by the catcher.
