Corey Kluber took the mound at Progressive Field just like any normal game. Needing just 85 pitches, Kluber outdueled Mariners ace Felix Hernandez by tossing a nine inning complete game shutout. Fifteen weeks later, the two right-handers were at it again, this time in a battle for the American League Cy Young Award, with Kluber once again coming out with the victory. IBI Indians beat reporter Jim Berdysz took part in a phone conference with the 2014 Cy Young winner and shares his thoughts.

They teased. They winked. And they beckoned. But when the final chapter closed on the 162-game journey, the Indians fell just short of the postseason and a spot to play in October. So what's next? IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz says the front office should not sit on their hands this offseason like last winter, and instead go out and continue to add to the young and rising Indians.

It's official. The lights above Progressive Field will not shine bright come October. But for one more night on Friday, Corey Kluber shined the brightest. Hurling eight dominant innings of shutout baseball, Kluber led the Indians in the series opener past Tampa Bay for a 1-0 victory. One win down...three to go. And then maybe, just maybe by some baseball miracle, the Indians will sniff the cool air of October. But that's for Oakland and Kansas City to decide. At least for now, the Tribe is still in the hunt for the postseason after a huge 6-4 win over the Royals Wednesday night. Maybe it was a day off they needed after all. After rain forced the Indians and Twins to play a traditional doubleheader Thursday, the Tribe came out on top twice on a cool afternoon at Progressive Field, netting an afternoon sweep. Both ballgames, while different, were centered on the same recipe for success with more dominant starting pitching. For a season that has endured countless ups and downs, there has been one constant that has defined the Indians all year long. Pitching. Saturday night at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario was no different. Tossing his third complete game victory of the season, Corey Kluber and the Tribe edged the White Sox, 3-1 to win their second straight over Chicago in the series. When it comes to walk-off wins, nobody in the American League does it better than the Indians. Activated off the disabled list just hours before first pitch Friday, outfielder David Murphy couldn't have had a better first at-bat back. Deadlocked with Chicago in a 1-1 tie in the 10th, Murphy notched a pinch-hit game winning single to center off reliever Maikel Cleto, edging the Tribe over the ChiSox, 2-1 in the series opener.

The last time David Price took the mound at Progressive Field, he was spraying silly string on his teammates as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays in October. On Monday, he just made the Indians offense look silly. Scoring 12 runs on 20 hits, division rival Detroit routed the Tribe, 12-1 in the first game of a four-game series. The Indians played two games Wednesday, but it's the first one they will want to remember. Just like the roller coaster of a season it's been, a twin bill with Arizona started sweet but would end sour. When the dust settled after 21 innings of play, the Tribe and D-Backs split a doubleheader on one swing of the bat from each ball club. Join IBI Indians beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps both games from the ballpark.

Corey Kluber wasn't an All-Star, but he sure continues to pitch like one. Backed behind the arm of their ace, the Indians took down in-state rival Cincinnati, 7-1 Monday night to win the first game in the Battle of Ohio. It started rough, eased up late and ended so smooth. Operating in extra innings against the Rangers knotted in a 3-3 tie, Cleveland's favorite doctor came up and saved the life of the game. On a 3-2 pitch from Texas rookie Phil Klein in the bottom of the 12th, Michael Brantley lined a walk-off solo homer into the visitors bullpen to give the Indians a 4-3 victory Sunday. As teams bolstered their rosters across the country Thursday, the Indians were busy subtracting players from their big league team, not adding them. It showed on the field in the rubber match with Seattle. Leading Seattle 5-4 in the eighth, right-hander Bryan Shaw served up what became the game-winning homer to Mariners catcher Mike Zunino, as the Mariners edged Cleveland, 6-5. The Indians traded their ace out of town Wednesday, but it was the Tribe's true ace they held hidden up their sleeve. Corey Kluber is that true ace, and he was paired up against the game's best king in the Mariners starter Felix Hernandez. Even in this poker game, the ace defeated the king and took home the jackpot, as Cleveland blanked Seattle, 2-0 on Kluber's complete game shutout. It's always good to take advantage of what's in front of you. Seattle and third baseman Kyle Seager did just that against an Indians team which continues its search for consistency. Back at Progressive Field Tuesday for the first time in over two weeks, the Mariners took down the Tribe, 5-2, in what became Trevor Bauer's worst start of the season. Roberto Perez will remember Thursday night for the rest of his life. Making his Major League debut, the 25 year-old catcher's dream came true in front of his very eyes. Leading New York 4-3 in the eighth, Indians bats exploded for five runs in the inning, capped off by Perez's first big league home run. The two-run shot increased the Tribe lead and they never looked back, routing the Yanks, 9-3. Join IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps the win from the ballpark.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Victor Martinez was once a friend of the Tribe, now he's their most feared enemy. Having played with the Indians for more that eight seasons from 2002-2009, Martinez led the offensive charge for the Tigers Friday night, as Detroit hung onto defeat Cleveland, 6-4.
