Edell Dazzles as Aeros Avoid Sweep
ALTOONA, PA – Ryan Edell tossed eight shutout innings and the offense provided just enough support as the Aeros avoided a sweep with a 2-0 win over Altoona before 3,446 fans at Blair County Ballpark Wednesday. Akron improved to 7-11 and snapped a season-high four-game losing streak, while the Curve fell below .500 at 9-10.

Pestano Closing In On Opportunity After Injury
The Indians took a shot in the dark when they draft right-handed reliever Vinnie Pestano in the 20th round of the 2006 draft out of Cal-State Fullerton. As a college junior, Pestano was one of the top relief prospects in the country going into the 2006 Draft, but a serious elbow injury early in the season sidelined him and put his professional baseball career in jeopardy.
Pestano hurt his elbow...

Word is out that right-hander Adam Miller will be activated in Buffalo to make his first start of the season in Buffalo. It is good to see him back again. I'll post the official roster move when I get it and who is being removed from the Buffalo roster.
Also, outfielder Trevor Crowe is going to be sidelined for about another month. Apparently the rumored bulging disc in his back I mentioned...

I'm going to try and post these game recaps for the previous nights game. The local newspapers generally only cover the team when they are home, so this should give a quick overview on what happened for the away games as well as the home games.

Minor Happenings: Head's Versatility Catching On
This is a special edition of Minor Happenings, which today is just a recap of interviews I had with Jerad Head, Paolo Espino, and Carlton Smith while I was visiting the Indians advanced Class A affiliate Kinston in Woodbridge, Virginia a week ago.
Head's Versatility Catching On
Indians prospect Jerad Head is a jack-of-all-trades player where he not only can play anywhere in the infield...

Wow. I never figured that my short little "rant" in my weekly farm recap on Thursday would cause such a stir.
To recap, I wrote this on Thursday:
Francisco was understandably disappointed to not make the Indians opening day roster, and it has shown early on. He has struckout three times in...

Akron put outfielder Stephen Head on the disabled list yesterday with a broken bone in his right (non-throwing) wrist and activated infielder Brandon Pinckney from extended spring training. Head had appeared in just five games with Akron following a return from off-season shoulder surgery, but was hitting .357 with three RBI in those contests. Supposedly, Head and the doctors were actually happy...

Minor Happenings: Hodges Off To A Hot Start
"Minor Happenings" covers the important developments and news in the Indians farm system. While most of the information in this report is from my own research and through interviews I have conducted with organizational personnel, some information in this report is collected and summarized from the various news outlets that cover each team.
This weekend, I will be in Eastlake, Ohio to catch...

I'll add to this later tonight or early tomorrow morning, but wanted to get a few things out. Been hectic with my birthday parties galore over the weekend and with our new "Gameday" feature that is starting up on STO ( tonight.
- Today RHP Bubbie Buzachero was sent to AAA Buffalo and Akron received RHP Scott Roehl from Mahoning Valley (extended spring...

Meyer A Special(ist) Reliever
Left-handed minor league pitcher Matt Meyer is one of those guys to take note of and file away. While he has no real chance to pitch in Cleveland anytime this year, he is a fast rising left-handed relief specialist who could enter into the Indians' plans sometime in 2009 if he continues to impress this season.
At 6'4" and 210 pounds with gold hair flying out from everywhere under his cap, Matt...

Unless you have been in the shoes of a professional baseball player it is hard to understand what being a Rule 5 draft pick is like. From the time these guys become professionals, making it to the major leagues is defined for them as a process. That process, including the patience that comes with it, is as much a rationalization for the excruciatingly long time it takes to just GET to the majors as...

Well, got to see Kinston in action tonight in Woodbridge, VA against the Potomac Nationals. It was not much of a game that will leave a lasting impression that's for sure. The team got in late because of their 16 inning game the previous night which delayed their bus ride this morning from 8am and pushed it back to 11am. So, they got in at a little after 5 o'clock. The looked a little tired and road...

Hello everyone, just a few quick updates today.
I'll be in Woodbridge, VA on Friday night to take in the Kinston/Potomac game at Pfitzner Stadium. I'm going to try and nail down as many guys as I can for interviews since Kinston will be the team I see the least this year, but if anyone has any suggestions let me know. Carlton Smith is at the top of my list because I have never talked to him...

Well, the minor league season is finally underway. Although, for Akron and Kinston mother nature and modern technology have delayed the start of their seasons.
Akron played on Thursday night, but after tying the score late the game was halted in the 10th inning because of wet grounds. The game was supposed to be picked up where it left off yesterday and then the regularly scheduled game be...

2008 Kinston Indians Preview
While yesterday was Opening Day around Minor league Baseball, a few leagues do not kick of their season until today. The Carolina League is one of them, and the Kinston Indians will finally get their season underway at 7:00 p.m. ET tonight at home against Winston-Salem.
Last season, Kinston finished the regular season with the best record in the Carolina League at 87-52. The season ended abruptly...

2008 Buffalo Bisons Preview
Just a reminder, I had planned on the first Minor Happenings of the season going up today, but due to limited news since my last Winter Haven report on Saturday, the first Minor Happenings will post next Thursday to recap the first week of the season as usual.
Today is Opening Day for Minor League Baseball, and with it brings another exciting season of following the Indians affiliates as a...
