Clippers snap losing skid
The Clippers snapped a six game losing streak with a 7-2 defeat of the Pawtucket Red Sox. Clippers starter Kirk Saarloos pitched seven strong innings and Columbus scored six runs in the sixth inning to get the win.
Saarloos allowed only two hits, including a Paul McAnulty solo home run off the scoreboard in right center in the fourth inning to tie the game...

Clippers Shutout 4-0
Columbus was shutout 4-0 on Friday night after a strong starting pitching performance from Pawtucket's Clay Buchholz who went 7.1 innings of shutout ball allowing just 2 hits, 1 walk and striking out 8.
Right-hander Tomo Ohka kept Columbus in the game with another quality start going 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, no walks and had 4 strikeouts. John Meloan...

Well, remember that "mid-level starting pitching prospect from Double-A" that Shapiro talked about on Wednesday that they were considering for a bullpen role? Looks like RHP Frank Herrmann was that guy, though he may not be the only one. Herrmann was moved up to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, but he has not taken over the starting duties as expected for departed starter Jeremy Sowers. Instead,...

Captains swept in double-header
The Clippers continued the recent history of struggles against the Norfolk Tides in double-header sweep Thursday afternoon, falling 5-2 and 4-3.
David Huff (4-1 4.05), pitching from behind in the count most of the day, found a way out. He allowed two runs in the first inning, but followed by retiring ten consecutive batters.
The Clippers tied...

Paul and I are back on tonight from 9:30-10:30 to talk about and make sense of all the moves from the past week. We'll talk about the Laffey move to the bullpen, the shifting in the organization with other arms, the LaPorta callup and more. Feel free to chime in or vent by calling us at 646-716-8012 or email a question you would like to have answered on the air to

Bold Bullpen Moves Signal Indians New Direction
"We've always had a set way of doing things here and tried to respect. But now I think we've got to have a little greater sense of urgency where those things are not going to be as important." - Indians GM Mark Shapiro
Wow, what a crazy day yesterday in Tribe Land with all the roster moves, mostly in conjunction with an organization looking for answers for the major league bullpen. It was...

All games on Wednesday, May 6 were rained out in our farm system.
Columbus will make up their game with a doubleheader scheduled for 11:15am on Thursday. Akron will make up the contest on Thursday morning with a doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games starting at 10:35 a.m. Kinston will play a series ending doubleheader Thursday afternoon starting at 5:30 pm. Lake County's game game...

Another move to announce, though this is more for the major league team. LHP Aaron Laffey has been moved to the bullpen and LHP Jeremy Sowers will be called up to replace Laffey in the rotation.

Well, in a day of an insane amount of activity up and down the system, same not so good news has been learned. I has heard that LHP Kelvin De La Cruz had a strained left elbow, but did not post it because I wanted confirmation from the Indians themselves that this indeed was the case. Well, it is official, as an Indians official says he has the aforementioned elbow strain and is shutdown for six...

Probably the most interesting move of the day is RHP Zach Putnam being promoted from High-A Kinston to Double-A Akron. Putnam will pitch out of the bullpen.
This is a very interesting move, and one that was expected down the road. But given the Indians issues with the bullpen, and Putnam's advanced, polished approach as a pitcher to go along with his plus stuff, Putnam is now on the bullpen...

Boy, what a busy day on the transactions front. I suggest scrolling down the page for the other two updates provided earlier in the day.
Anyway, RHP Frank Herrmann has been promoted from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus. RHP Jack Cassel was moved to Mahoning Valley to make room for Herrmann, though as reported earlier LHP Jeremy Sowers has left Columbus and Herrmann will ultimately be replacing...

RHP Matt Herges has been activated on the 40-man and called up to Cleveland, and LHP Rafael Perez optioned to Triple-A Columbus. To make room on the roster for Herges, the Indians released RHP Juan Salas.

As I mentioned yesterday, RHP Danny Salazar is up from extended spring training and has joined Low-A Lake County. He will move into the starting rotation with RHP Paolo Espino sliding back into the bullpen. To make room for Salazar, INF Matt Willard was moved up to High-A Kinston to fill in the vacant spot left open by INF Cristo Arnal. Arnal was just called up in the last few days to Triple-A Columbus...

Jeremy Sowers was a late scratch from his scheduled start last night, a change that came in shortly before the start of the game. Zach Jackson made the spot start for Triple-A Columbus instead. Sowers is not injurred, and it looks like he is either on his way to Cleveland or has been traded. If he is on his way to Cleveland, it will be interesting to see how he is used and if he goes into the bullpen...

Norfolk sweeps twinbill from Clippers
The Clippers dropped both halves of a double-header to the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday night 5-0 and 5-2. The biggest story of the night may have happened before the game as Jeremy Sowers was held from his scheduled start after manager Torey Lovullo talked with the Indians brass. After the second game, the skipper had no further information regarding Sowers'...

RHP Danny Salazar is up from extended spring training and with Low-A Lake County. He will slide into the starting rotation. The move is not official yet, but he should be activated when his spot comes up in the rotation (no idea when that is at the moment). No word on who is being sent out to make room for him.

Low-A Lake County had a scheduled off day on Monday night.
Clippers Washed Out In Norfolk
The Columbus vs. Norfolk game scheduled for Monday night was washed out because of rain. The game will be made up as part of a double-header tomorrow (Tuesday). The first game starts at 6:15pm and LHP Jeremy Sowers (1-1, 2.25) goes against LHP Rich Hill (0-1, 5.40) of Norfolk. In game two RHP Jack...

Some roster moves were made on Monday. INF Cristo Arnal was called up from High-A Kinston to Triple-A Columbus and RHP Scott Roehl was put on the disabled list with a strained groin. Also, INF Jared Goedert was activated from the Double-A Akron disabled list and INF Josh Rodriguez was put on the disabled list with a hamstring injury he suffered running the bases last Wednesday. Rodriguez is leading...
