Henry Taking It One Step At A Time
While the early returns from the Indians 2009 Draft have been so-so to date - largely because their top three picks have yet to play - one player in particular has been very impressive through his first month of play for short-season Single-A Mahoning Valley. That player is Jordan Henry, a scrawny, lightning quick outfielder who has been a catalyst at the top of the Mahoning Valley lineup all season.

The Clippers garnered a split in the series at Pawtucket, winning 4-3 Monday afternoon. Lefty Kris Johnson (3-11) shut out the Clippers for five innings and fellow southpaw Zach Jackson (4-7) allowed just two runs on five hits. Though both pitched well, neither factored in the decision.
Pawtucket broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. After a...

This week’s Diamonds in Single A will focus on a player who hopefully never plays an inning with the Indians single A farm teams. This week will focus on the newest Indian, Connor Graham. The Indians have stated that Graham will report to Akron, which will be his first time above A ball. So, for the time being he is still eligible for this column. He was acquired this week when the Indians traded...

Pawtucket squeezes past Clippers
Pawtucket beat the Clippers 3-2 on Sunday at McCoy Stadium. Charlie Zink took the mound for the Pawtucket Red Sox, sporting a knuckleball that baffled the Clippers. He walked a batter in every inning, but kept the bats off the baseball for much of the day.

Ghosts of Prospects Past: 2003 Indians Bullpen
There wasn’t exactly a torrent of fan reaction last week when the Tribe dealt Rafael Betancourt to Colorado for BB prone AA arm Connor Graham. It was a necessary move, financially and logistically, and hardly an earth shattering one. Still, it seems like Raffy might have deserved a better sendoff. The fact is, there may be no breed in the Big Leagues as rare as the long-tenured middle reliever. It’s...

Carlton In Charge
For Double-A Akron right-handed reliever Carlton Smith, his first ever professional All Star game experience was a memorable one. He was added to the team less than a week as a replacement for injured closer right-hander Vinnie Pestano, but his selection was more than deserved as in 24 games he is 4-1 with a 2.60 ERA (55.1 IP, 47 H, 16 BB, 27 K).
Most of all, with the All Star game in Trenton,...
