Aeros fall to Baysox for second loss in a row

BOWIE, MD - The Akron Aeros fell to the Bowie Baysox, 7-5, Friday for their second straight loss.

Making his fifth start of the season left-handed pitcher Eric Berger manned the mound for the first five innings of the game. He faced 22 batters and allowed three runs, struck out two and walked one.

Jared Goedert got the Aeros going in the first inning with a line drive single up the middle. Chun Chen followed up with a big home run to left field putting Akron up to a quick 2-0 lead.

Bowie quickly countered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first with a single from left fielder L.J. Hoes, fielding error by shortstop Juan Diaz and double from catcher Caleb Joseph.

In the top of the second, Akron battled back at the plate putting another two runs on the board to lead the Baysox 4-3. First baseman Adam Abraham doubled on a sharp ground ball to left field. Infielder Davis Stoneburner singled on a line drive to center field that plated Abraham, and then catcher Roberto Perez followed up with another single up the middle to put runners on first and third. Center fielder Tim Fedroff hit a sacrifice fly to right field getting Stoneburner across the plate.

Down by one run, Hoes put one over the left field fence for a solo homerun to tie the ball game 4-4.

The tie would be short lived when Diaz hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to left field. The homer would be Akron’s second for the night and Diaz’s first for the season.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Bowie got to right-hander Brian Price. Hoes singled and then back-to-back doubles by Joseph and Robbie Widlansky sent three Bowie runs to the plate giving them the final, 7-5, lead of the game.

The 17-8 Aeros face the Baysox again Saturday in the second game of he series with left-hander T.J. McFarland starting from the mound.
