BINGHAMTON-The Binghamton Mets overcame Sunday Afternoon's late inning dramatics to defeat the Akron Aeros 5-2 on Monday Night.
Right away, the Aeros were able to put a run on the board.
Third baseman Justin Toole got things started with a single, making way for rightfielder Carlos Moncrief who doubled and brought home Toole. The Aeros stranded Moncrief, but still led 1-0 after the first.
The Aeros bats found their way back in the top of the third inning.
Left fielder Bo Greenwell doubled to start off the inning, giving the Aeros a man in scoring position with no outs. Centerfielder Tyler Holt then grounded out, allowing Toole to come through again, this time with an RBI single, giving the Aeros a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Mets responded and never looked back.
Shortstop Wilfredo Tovar smacked a single to the gap, tried to stretch it into a double, and was thrown out at second to start off the inning on a down note for the Mets. In spite of the initial boost from the outfield assist, the Aeros couldn’t hold the Mets in the inning. The Mets got things started up again with a walk by center fielder Tobias Harris and a single from second baseman Daniel Muno. With men on first and third, third baseman Joshua Rodriguez reached on an error and Harris scored, giving the Mets their first run of the game. DH Allan Dykstra then continued the rally with an RBI single, scoring Muno and tying the game. Left fielder Cory Vaughn then grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Rodriguez and giving the Mets a 3-2 lead.
The Mets added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Muno and Rodriguez hit back to back singles, and after Dykstra flew out to give the Aeros their second out of the inning. With men on first and third, and two outs, Vaughn drove home Muno and extended the Binghamton lead to 4-2.
Binghamton continued their tear in the bottom of the sixth when right fielder Cesar Puello boomed a solo home run to home run to centerfield, giving the Mets 5 straight unanswered runs.
Akron wasn’t able to mount any sort of a comeback, and the Mets secured the 5-2 win.

The Aeros and Mets came into the night with the same 19-18 record, the Mets moving to 20-18 after the win. The Aeros fell back to .500 at 19-19.

The Aeros look to bounce back and win this series with Binghamton tomorrow night. Paolo Espino of Akron is set to start for the Aeros while Logan Verrett will start for the Mets.

First pitch is set for 6:35 pm from NYSEG Stadium.
