AKRON - The Akron Aeros defeated the Bowie Baysox, 9-5, Wednesday at Canal Park in game two of a three-game series.

“We have made a lot of adjustments and the players have continued to put themselves in different positions to have an opportunity," said Manager Chris Tremie.  “It’s all apart of the process in the minor leagues.”

Right-handed pitcher Sean Gleason started from the hill for the Baysox. He took down seven Aeros at the plate in just the first three innings.

“The kid threw the ball well,” said Tremie of Gleason. “Good arm, throws hard and had a good breaking ball…he really pitched well in the first two or three innings.”

Gleason’s streak was short lived as the Aeros picked up the momentum and got the bats going in the bottom of the third inning. Second baseman Davis Stoneburner hit a whopping triple deep to the right field corner with one out in the inning.  Left fielder Tim Fedroff, third baseman Kyle Bellows, and desingated hitter Chun Chen made trips down the first base line with a trio of back-to-back-to-back walks, allowing Stoneburner to stroll home.

Gleason was replaced in the fourth by reliever Michael Belfiore. The Aeros put three more on the board against the left-hander to make the score 4-0.  Infielder Ryan Rohlinger started things off with a one out walk and then center fielder Ben Copeland reached on an error.  Catcher Roberto Perez doubled on a fly ball to left field which scored Rohlinger and moved Copeland to third. Stoneburner grounded out to score Copeland, and then with two out Fedroff hit a line drive single to the right side to playe Perez.

Akron came back in the fifth inning to put one more on the board thanks to a sacrifice fly by Copeland that put them up 5-0 through five innings.

The Baysox made a huge comeback in the top of the sixth inning.  Allan de San Miguel doubled on a fly ball to the right side with Josh Barfield following up with a line-drive single to second base. With no outs, Travis Adair lobbed a fly ball over the right field line for a three run homer, cutting the Aeros led to 5-3. Manny Machado and Zelous Wheeler both got on with a pair of singles to put two more runs on the board tying the game up at 5-5.

The Aeros answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Chun Chen doubled for the sixteenth time this season on a fly ball to the right side. Abraham smacked a line drive single to the left side to get Chen across the plate.

Akron wasn’t done there. The team came back strong in the bottom of the eighth inning. Fedroff reached first on a fielding error and Bellows singled on a line drive to the right side putting Fedroff in scoring position. Chen walked and then with two runners in scoring position, Abraham hit a double to left field to score both Fedroff and Bellows.  Nick Weglarz put the ball in play and reached on a fielder’s choice resulting in Chen getting across the plate making the final score 9-5.

“Abraham’s double at the end of the game really put the game away, “ said Tremie. “Combined with the bullpen, Price and Landis coming in, I think those were really the biggest points in the game.”

The 31-19 Aeros will host the Bowie Baysox Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Akron will start righty Brett Brach against Baysox left-hander Zach Britton.
