(Akron, Ohio) August 19, 2014 – Altoona Curve center fielderKeon Broxton enjoyed a career night as he went 4-4, with two home runs and four RBI to lead the Curve to a 7-2 rain-shortened victory over the Akron RubberDucks Tuesday night at Canal Park.

The game was halted by rain in the top of the eighth, shortly after Broxton hit a three-run home run against reliever Adam Miller, which extended the Altoona lead to 7-2. He also homered in the fourth inning against starter Will Roberts. Broxton picked up two singles and raised his average nine points to .262.

It was the third straight loss for Akron (70-59). First-place Richmond split a doubleheader at home against New Britain, leaving the RubberDucks one game out of first with 13 games left to play. Third-place Bowie won at home against Reading and pulled within 41⁄2 games of Akron. The top two teams in the division make the EL playoffs.

In the first meeting since May 22, both teams got off to a scoring start as Curve second baseman Alen Hanson set the tone with a leadoff home run for an early 1-0 lead. Dan Gamache also homered for the Curve. The four Altoona home runs ties the most Akron has given up in a single game this season.

Anthony Gallas, who drove in five runs on the recent road trip, had an RBI single to raise his RBI total to 42 on the season. In his first game back since being activated from the disabled list, Joe Wendle clubbed a sacrifice fly.

The Curve extended their lead to 4-2 when a wild pitch from reliever Giovanni Soto (0-2) allowed a run to score in the seventh before Broxton sealed the deal with his three-run homer against reliever Adam Miller.

Akron starter Will Roberts worked five innings to match his shortest outing of the season. He picked up only his second no decision of the season. In his five innings of work, Roberts allowed two runs, both off of solo homers, seven hits, walked two and fanned three.

Soto absorbed the loss despite striking out four in his two innings on the mound. Altoona starter Jhonathan Ramos(5-5) picked up the win after pitching six innings, allowing two runs, one earned and striking out three while walking two. Righty Matt Nevarez came in for relief in the seventh and was awarded his first save after one inning on the mound.

The RubberDucks and Curve (54-74) will continue the three-game series at Canal Park on Wednesday night at 7:05. Akron will send RHP Cody Anderson (4-9, 4.57) to the mound while RHP Angel Sanchez (0-1, 4.50) will make the start for Altoona. The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and
