Akron RubberDucks pounce for 10 runs against Binghamton

(Akron, Ohio) June 9, 2014 – The Akron RubberDucks recorded a 10-2 win over the Binghamton Mets on Monday Canal Park, led by the hot-hitting Tyler Naquin.

A two-run homer by Naquin extended the Akron lead to 3-0 in the fifth. This extended Naquin’s hitting streak to 11 games, a team high. The centerfielder went 3-for-5 on the evening, and has hit safely in 19 of his last 20 games.

Binghamton closed in on the Akron lead in the sixth, with an RBI double by Kevin Plawecki. A solo homer by Dustin Lawley in the seventh brought the Mets to trail the Ducks, 3-2.

The RubberDucks tacked on two additional runs in the seventh, withJordan Smith scoring on an error by Mets’ right fielder Travis Taijeron. A single by Francisco Lindor sent Ollie Linton across the plate, extending the Akron lead to 5-2.

The Ducks doubled their runs with a five-run eighth to solidify the win, with a two-run homer by Tony Wolters, a two-run double by Linton and an RBI by Lindor.

Akron starter Duke von Schamann (3-0) picked up the with for the Ducks, after pitching seven innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and walking three batters. This marked his return from Triple-A Columbus after picking up his first AAA win last Wednesday over the Gwinnett Braves.

Bryan Price earned his first save for Akron, pitching two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two batters.
Hansel Robles (3-4) recorded the loss for Binghamton, pitching six innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, three

walks, and one home run.

The RubberDucks will take on the Binghamton Mets in a doubleheader Tuesday evening at Canal Park, with the first seven-inning game beginning at 5:35 p.m. and the second commencing a half hour following the conclusion of the first game. Righthander Cody Anderson (2-3, 3.96) will start the first game for Akron, and lefty Matt Packer (1-0, 7.20) will start the second game for the Ducks. Binghamton will send left-hander Angel Cuan (1-3, 8.50) to the bump for their first outing of the day, and the second pitcher for the Mets has yet to be announced.
