READING - The Akron Aeros fell short to the Reading Phillies after a ten innings of play on Monday, 4-3.

The Phillies took a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on two fielding errors by Akron and two stolen bases. The Aeros got the run back in the top of the seventh led by a line drive double to left field by right fielder Thomas Neal.  First baseman Adam Abraham followed with a walk. Second baseman Ryan Rohlinger grounded into a force out to shortstop, but was able to advance to second on a throwing error and also allowed Neal to score.

Reading came back in the bottom half of the seventh inning to put another run on the board when Akron brought reliever Kyle Landis in to replace starter Brett Brach. Brach saw 21 batters in his time on the mound allowed only one hit, one run, one walk and struck out four.

With the Phillies up 2-1, the Aeros came back in the top of the eighth with two runs to put themselves up for the fist time. Davis Stoneburner started the inning off with a single and then Neal hit a line drive double to right field, his tenth of the season, which pushed Stoneburner across the plate and tie the game at 2-2. Nick Weglarz continued the hit parade with a single up the middle scoring Neal and giving Akron a 3-2 lead.

The lead for Akron was short lived when a set of back-to-back-to-back singles by the Phillies put an additional run on the board in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game up 3-3.

After a scoreless ninth inning, the game moved into extra innings.  In the bottom of the tenth inning the Aeros brought in right-hander Rob Bryson and the first batter he faced smacked a double to left. After a successful sacrifice bunt that pushed the winning run to third with one out, Reading third baseman Miguel Abreu ended the game with a soft line drive single to make the final 4-3.

The Aeros, head back home Tuesday to conclude a game started on June 3 against the Binghamton Mets that was postponed due to weather.  The regularly scheduled game of the three day home stand will start off with right-handed pitcher Paolo Espino facing B-Mets lefty Mark Cohoon.
