Answering some subscription questions
Some people have expressed some frustrations today with the new subscription feature, be it because of the new subscription fee to read certain articles or because they are having trouble creating an account. I’m posting this to hopefully help explain the reasoning for the change to a subscription-based site and also help steer people to the proper way of signing up.
Back on February 2nd I posted a note “A New IPI is Coming” that kind of laid out what was to come with the new site. The reasoning behind why the site changed to a subscription-based format is simply because it is where I had to go with it to keep the site in operation.
I had to make a decision back in August to either dive into this full time and make it my regular full time job, or I had to move away from it and shut the site down. For a long time I had been running the site as a glorified hobby and putting in 40-50 hours a week into it on top of a regular full time 40-hour job and raising a family. After my bout with cancer last April I realized that baseball is where I wanted to be, so I left my regular job and I am now doing this as a full time job.
Since this is now a job I had to get creative to find ways to create revenue to support myself and my family in this new venture. I had the opportunity to export the site to a few regional and national media corporations that were interested in it, but I wanted to remain independent and see if I can do this on my own first. This is where the new premium membership that I have setup on the site comes into play.
I understand that for many this will be an immediate turn off and I may lose some readers because of this decision. I will be sorry to see that happen, but I believe in my work and my hope is that many people will find it acceptable to pay about $2.50 a month for a lot of firsthand information that I provide that I believe is informative, accurate, well researched, and not available anywhere else.
You have the option to not subscribe as a majority of the articles on the site will still be “free”, just note that most of the indepth articles and features will only be available through a subscription. I do not know where things will go from here, but I appreciate the continued support and if you have any questions or comments please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As far as those people that may be having issues creating an account, be sure that you are clicking on the “create account” link located just below the login box INSIDE the site header. It is the login box directly to the right of the big Indians Prospect Insider logo and is overlayed on top of a background picture of players.
Another way to create an account is to simply click on a premium article, and then when the red box comes up saying “This article is available to Indians Prospect Insider subscription holders only. Login above or click here to create an account” just click on the “create an account” portion within that text that is hyperlinked.
Do not click on the link at the very top right of the site that says “login” right next to the “with FoxSports.com on MSN”…..this is for the Yardbarker network and that bar along the top is simply for Fox Sports and has no relation to the IPI.
Also, if you are registered for the message board you need a separate account for the site, so your message board login will not work on the actual site. The logins for the message board are specific only to the PHPBB board.
If anyone has any problems with registering, let me know and I will try to help. This is a new system and new process, so I expect some bugs that may need to be ironed out and some problems to crop up. If you prefer not to use PayPal to start your subscription, you have the option to send a payment to me by US Mail via a check or money order. If interested in this, please contact me.
I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience with all of this and I appreciate your continued support of the IPI. This is only the beginning of what I believe this site can and will become.

I checked and your subscription is active. To make the process smoother and alleviate any confusion, I will see about having a confirmation email sent. I know once you subscribe it confirms it on the screen....but I will see about having emails sent from now on.
