Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Roberto Perez (Indios de Mayaguez, C) - 3-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K - This was the only appearance by an Indian organization player in winter ball Friday night, but it was a big one.  Perez gets his first hit in just over a week and gets out of a slump which had seen him hit only .091 in his last eight games with a plate appearance (he came in as a defensive substitution but did not bat in the Indios' last game before Christmas on Tuesday).  Hopefully, this is a sign of a longer-term improvement in his performance.

I am a big Roberto Perez fan and was starting to worry a bit about his fall-off in Winter Ball. Bell's Palsy is a viral disease- after the initial debilitating outbreak you build up antibodies to it and the virus recedes, but it never completely leaves your body. If you don't take good care of yourself and you get stressed out, you can get flare-ups. He's got it in him to be a very good player, but he has to take care of himself.
