Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Carlos Santana (Leones del Escogido, 1B): 1-for-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB. It looks as if Santana's experimental stint at third base might be over as he makes his second straight start at first.  His return to a more familiar position seems to be having an impact on Carlos' performance at the plate as he has a solid multi-RBI night with a homer, a walk and scored two runs.  Also, my question regarding whether the Tribe would keep him in the DR if he couldn't play third base seems to have been answered in the affirmative.

NOTE:  No indians played in either league tonight on the second to last day of their respective regular seasons.  As I did on Friday with LIDOM, I will post more detailed information regarding the LBPRC and LVBP postseasons in Tuesday's Around The Farm column.

Santana is a liability defensively wherever he plays. If he's not going to be happy i.e. focused solely as a DH I think the Indians should try to rehome him. He may be able to do first base adequately eventually, but he has to get third and catcher out of his mind and get lots more regular reps at first- with Swisher over there most of the time, how is that going to work.

Also Santana made two errors at 1B in that game.

Incidentally, it was a bit of a bloodbath - there were seven ejections, including both managers. If Santana does start getting intentionally hit by pitches then he will be on a flight home very soon. The Tribe aren't going to want to risk that kind of injury.

Arthur, the impetus for Santana trying out 3rd base actually came from the player, not the Tribe:

'Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said it was Santana who brought up the idea of trying his hand at third base once again. "We're focused on trying to find a way for Carlos to have the biggest impact on our team,.." Antonetti said "...Carlos, to his credit said, 'Hey, I've played third base in the past. I'm happy to go to winter ball and get some more experience at third and see how it goes.'"
