Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special Instructional League version of ATF that recaps each of the 13 Instructional League games the Indians minor leaguers will play this fall as well as games played in the advanced Instructional League (Arizona Parallel League, AZPL). The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Here are the game reports for both the Fall Instructional League and Arizona Parallel League (AZPL) teams played on Friday.

For those who do not know the AZPL is considered advanced Instructional League. The Indians and Reds share a team and it is primarily to get some older players more playing opportunities against like competition.

Instructional League Game #6: September 30 vs. Dodgers
  • LeVon Washington (CF): 0-for-2, K. Washington is now 1-for-14 with 6 strikeouts in Instructs.
  • Hunter Jones (LF): 0-for-2. We have a Hunter Jones sighting in Instructional League. With Tyler Holt heading home this weekend, we will likely see a lot more of Jones.
  • Robel Garcia (2B): 2-for-3, R, HR, RBI, BB, K. Garcia’s second homer this fall, which leads all players.
  • Tony Wolters (DH): 0-for-4. Wolters is now just 1-for-18 in 6 games this fall.
  • Jake Lowery (1B): 0-for-4, 3 K. Lowery proves to be human with his worst games this fall. Coming into the game he had reached base 11 of 15 times.
  • Giovanny Urshela (DH): 1-for-2, R, K. Urshela gets a day off in the field as he has been getting all of the starts at third base.
  • Jorge Martinez (DH): 0-for-1. Martinez is still hitless in 12 at bats this fall.
  • Leonardo Castillo (3B): 1-for-3, 2B, 2 K. The versatile Castillo gets his first action in Instructs at third base.
  • Alex Lavisky (C): 0-for-2, RBI. Lavisky gets his first RBI this fall.
  • Eric Haase (C): 0-for-1. Haase’s playing time has been limited because of his youth and other catchers on the Instructional League roster.
  • Tyler Holt (LF/CF): 1-for-3, K. Another strikeout for Holt, which is now 8 in 19 at bats.
  • Francisco Lindor (SS): 0-for-2. Lindor is 2-for-8 in five games this fall.
  • Ronny Rodriguez (SS): 0-for-1, K, E. Rodriguez continues to give way to Lindor at shortstop.
  • Luigi Rodriguez (RF): 0-for-2, BB. L-Rod is getting in a lot of work as he has played in all six games. He has reached base in 7 of 16 plate appearances.
  • Michael Goodnight (SP): 1.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R/ER, 3 BB, 1 K. Goodnight’s Instructional League debut, and a forgettable one.
  • Trey Haley (RP): 1.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 5 K. A departure from Haley’s first two outings which were very good when he threw 4.0 innings of shutout ball and did not walk anyone.
  • Giovanni Soto (RP): 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 1 K. Soto is getting some extra work in Instructs mainly to make up for time lost this season for left elbow neuritis.
  • Jake Sisco (RP): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Sisco has now made three appearances and in 4.1 innings has not yielded a walk.
  • Shawn Armstrong (RP): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Armstrong’s first appearance in Instructs. Striking out the side is a great start.
Parallel League Game #7: September 30 vs. Surprise
  • Kyle Bellows (DH): 0-for-3, 2 RBI. No hits for Bellows, but nice to see some run production.
  • Jesus Aguilar (1B): 1-for-4, K, E. Aguilar is now 4-for-11 in the advanced Instructional League, which is good to see.
  • Carlos Moncrief (RF/CF): 3-for-4, R, K, E. Moncrief is still striking out a lot, but he is having one of the better performers this fall of all the Indians players in Instructional League.
  • Alex Monsalve (C): 2-for-2, RBI. Nice game for Monsalve who is filling in for Tyler Cannon while he is out.
  • Hector Ambriz (SP): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. Ambriz has now made three appearances this fall and in 4.0 innings has allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 run and has 6 strikeouts.
  • Michael Rayl (RP): 2.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 K. Rayl makes his first appearance this fall, though it was a rough debut with 5 baserunners allowed in 2.0 innings and on 48 pitches.
