Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Audy Ciriaco (Estrellas Orientales, 3B) - 1-3, 1 RBI - Ciriaco has only one hit on the night, but it drove in a game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning of an eventual 4-3 loss to the Gigantes del Cibao.

Giovanni Soto (Gigantes de Carolina, SP) - ND, 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R (earned), 2 BB, 6 K - Soto allows too many runners to get on base, but has a solid outing that was squandered by nonexistent run support in the early innings of a 3-2 loss to the Criollos de Caguas to open the LBPRC playoffs.

Roberto Perez (Indios de Mayaguez, C) - 1-4, 1 K - An unremarkable start to Perez's playoffs including grounding into a double play in the bottom of the second.

The Puerto Rican playoff format is similar to that of the Dominican Winter League, which I outlined in a previous ATF. The LBPRC recently completed a 40-game (all five teams play each other ten times) regular season, with the last place Senadores de San Juan (12-28) being eliminated.

Friday's games began a 12-game (top four teams play each other four times) round robin that will end on January 17 (no games on January 5, 8, and 12). The top two teams will advance to a best-of-seven championship series for the LBPRC title and the Puerto Rican berth in the Serie del Caribe, which will be held in Puerto Rico this year at the Estadio Hiram Bithorn in San Juan.
