Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Audy Ciriaco (Estrellas Orientales, 3B) - 0-3, 1 K - Ciriaco has an underwheliming night, but is batting .300 in the playoffs.  He may be starting to wear down from the long season, given his performances this weekend.

Bryson Myles (Gigantes de Carolina, starting LF) - 0-2. Myles had an uneventful evening before being pinch hit for in the sixth inning by Jobduan Morales.  Hopefully this is performance-related and not connected to an injury.

Anthony Gallas (Aguilas del Zulia, DH) - 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K - Gallas, who finished the regular seaon on a tear that saw him post a .350/.469/.675 slash line with 3 HR and 7 RBI in his last ten games, started his playoff campaign in similar fashion.

Saturday's games began the playoffs in the Venezuelan Winter League (LVBP).  Here is how the Venezuelan circuit's season works.

 - A 63-game regular season (plus some tiebreaker games) was recently completed (the season involves eight teams playing each other nine times).  The Cardenales de Lara and Leones del Caracs both lost tiebreaker games to the Tiburones de La Guaira to finish 29-35 and miss the playoffs along with the last place Bravos de Margarita (23-39).

 - The five remaining teams play a 16-game (each team plays everyone else four times) round robin.  The Round Robin runs from today to January 22 with each team playing on 16 days and having four off days (one team off each day due to five teams playing in this round).

 - The top two teams advance to a best-of-7 championship series for the LVBP title and the Venezuelan berth in the Serie del Caribe at Estadio Hiram Bithorn in San Juan, Puerto Rico from February 1-8.

Barring a lot of injuries this spring, Gallas will open in Akron. Just too many guys in Columbus ahead of him.

I believe Gallas should start the year in Columbus. Looks like he might be a late bloomer.
