Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League and the Caribbean Leagues.  The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.

Note: The Arizona Fall League was off on Sunday.

PUERTO RICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LBPRC)

Carlos Moncrief (Gigantes del Carolina - Game 1, RF) - 0-for-3, 1 K - Moncrief continues to struggle a little early in the LBPRC season, with this performance dropping him below the Mendoza Line.  Thankfully, this is still a case of small sample size and Carlos still has ample time to turn it around before the end of the Puerto Rican regular season.

Carlos Moncrief (Gigantes del Carolna - Game 2, DH) - 1-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB - Mocrief came back in the nightcap with a much better showing than in the opener. In five games he is hitting just .188/.278/.188 with 2 RBI and a 2:3 walk to strikeout ratio.  Just keep reminding yourself that this is a small sample size and it is early.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)

Erik Gonzalez (Leones del Escogido, starting SS) - 3-for-3 - Gonzalez continues his strong LIDOM form with a perfect outing at the plate before being pulled for pinch-runner Freddy Guzman in the eighth inning.  Hopefully, the pinch-running decision was strategic and not injury-related.

Jose Ramirez (Toros del Este, 2B) - 1-for-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 CS, 1 HBP - J-Ram appears to be starting to have more good days of late in the Domincan Winter League, which is a good sign.  Hopefully, he can keep it up and get his batting average up to .300 (now at .286 after Sunday's effort).

VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE (LVBP)

Bryan Price (Bravos de Margarita, RP) - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K - Bryan Price's solid work in the ninth and tenth inning go to waste as the Bravois lose it in the eleventh.  Price continues to pitch well in the LVBP and it will be interesting to see how this form translates to spring training and the regular season next year. He's had a banner showing in 2013 season.

Jesus Aguilar (Leones del Caracas, 3B) - 0-for-3, 1 BB, 1 K - Aguilar has another off night, but still manages to get on base.  I'm getting a feeling that the RBI Machine may be wearing down from the long season, but even so, he is still performing well on the winter season hitting .340/.400/.612 with 8 HR and 25 RBI in 26 LVBP games.

Just a note for anyone who noticed the lack of Australian Baseball League action in ATF this weekend. The only ABL team with any Indians on it (the Brisbane Bandits) were on their bye week (each team gets one between weekends 2-4 of the ABL season). There are no midweek series in the ABL (Midweek baseball tickets would be kind of a hard sell in Australia. Heck, they're a hard sell in Cleveland.) although wraparound series do lead to some Monday and Thursday games and the All-Star Game is on a Wednesday.

House is more of a depth guy. Might be a backend option down the road, but not really right now unless injuries force it.

Tony,

Becoming intrigued with this TJ House. Can he be a viable option as a starter in case of injury or ineffectiveness??

Price is a good depth pen option for the Indians in 2014. I see him having the kind of impact/use as guys like Langwell and Guilmet had where they were called up a few different times as an extra arm, depth, spot pen guys or up a little longer due to injury. If he gets any extended opps, those will determine how his role or length of time in the bigs changes.

Price shows 4 walks in LVBP but 2 were IBB. And 2 of his earned runs were a very unfortunate situation for him. So all and all he has had a great LVBP and complete year!

Brian Price is really impressing me and I look forward to following his progress as a potential arm for the Indians going forward
