Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note, the Puerto Rico Winter League was washed out on Saturday and no Indians were in action in the Venezuela Winter League.

Jose Ramirez (SS, Toros del Este) - 2-4, 1 RBI - J-Ram is performing much better as of late as he posts his fifthmulti-hit outing in his last eight games and increases his last 10 average to .341 (15-for-44).  The only negative on the night was grounding into a double play to end the bottom of the fifth inning.

Audy Ciriaco (Estrellas Orientales, PH-backup 3B) - 1-2, 1 RBI, 1 K - While his sixth-inning pinch-hit appearance did not go as well as hoped, he did get an RBI hit and a stolen base his other time up in the bottom of the eighth inning.  He has been playing better as of late, likely a product of no longer having to play under the pressure of playing for a contract.

Dead on, with both Stowell and Brewer / Cloyd. I honestly, didn't even notice him, until I saw he's with the Rays now. Brewer is a fringe SP, which can be a curse / blessing. That is, good enough to start, but not as a regular big leaguer.

Stowell was with the Rays organization last year. He's been out of the mix for a while, and looks like not many people noticed.

Saw that Bryce Stowell signed with Tampa Bay.....
One more possible reliever (all be it a long shot) out of the mix..

Who got DFAed for Brewer?

He's more like the next Tomlin if he gets a 40 spot.

Yeah Brewer is definitely fits this years "Tyler Cloyd" style addition to Columbus depth ranks. Sort of a fringe arm that should be ready if the worst situation presents itself.

Charles Brewer is a depth SP option, he will be 27, next season. Brewer projects as a 5th Starter, or bullpen arm. Brewer sits 90-92 with his FB. He adds another depth option. Minor move that may equate as nothing, but might pay off with a serviceable arm acq. on the cheap.

I'm not sure who goes to add Brewer to the 40 man roster, but my guess is Barnes or Price. I could see either Barnes or Price moved in similar fashion (traded for cash).

Late last evening the Indians did make a small transaction.

Acquired RHP Charles Brewer from Arizona for cash.
