Around The Farm: November 24. 2013
Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of the daily performances by Indians prospects. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in offseason winter ball leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in the game.
Note: The Venezuela Winter League was in action but no Indians played.
DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)
Erik Gonzalez (Leones del Escogido, SS): 2-for-3, 1 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI. Gonzalez continues to dominate LIDOM pitching with this multi extra-base hit effort. He now has nine extra-base hits and 12 RBI in 29 LIDOM games and has multiple hits in three of his last four games. Let's hope he plays this well come next spring and summer.
PUERTO RICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LBPRC)
Bryce Stowell (Criollos de Caguas, RP): L (0-1), BS (2), 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R (1 earned), 3 BB (1 intentional). Stowell has his second straight rough outing after three scoreless efforts to start the LBPRC season. While the sample size is still small, the pattern is not exactly positive.
AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE (ABL)
Ryan Battaglia (Brisbane Bandits, DH): 1-for-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K. Battaglia extends his hitting treak to three. His batting average is not exactly astronomical (.250), but he is posting an 1.111 OPS (.432 OPS/.679 SLG). Again, we are looking at a small sample size here, but there are some good signs in these numbers.
Mickey Jannis (Brisbane Bandits, CP): S (1), 0.1 IP, perfect. Admittedly, tonight was light on Indians farmhands playing in the offseason leagues, but this site also covers one other team outside the Tribe organization: The Lake Erie Crushers. Crusher pitcher Mickey Jannis has performed well for Brisbane this season, allowing no earned runs in 4.2 IP in four outings thus far this season. Sunday's outing was short (three pitches to one batter), but did earn him his first save of the season. If he continues this strong form, it will be interesting to see if it ends up getting him a second shot at affiliated ball (maybe even in the Indians organization?).
