Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Carlos Moncrief (RF, Aguilas del Zulia) - 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB - Moncrief makes it back-to-back nights with a hit and drives in his 14th run of the winter.  Hopefully, this is the beginning of a long-term turnaround from his recent poor form.

Jose Ramirez (starting 2B, Toros del Este) - 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 Sac Fly - More J-Ram being J-Ram, including driving in his 13th run of the winter on a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the 5th.

Audy Ciriaco (3B, Estrellas Orientales) - 0-3, 1 BB - Audy has his first hitless night in nine days.  Games like this are not a cause for concern unless they become a more common occurrence.

Roberto Perez (C, Indios de Mayaguez) - 0-3, 2 K - While three straight hitless games are a cause for concern, especially in an offseason as important as this one for Perez, this one is mitigated by the fact that no one did much of anything on the night against Cangrejeros de Santurce starter Ivan Maldonado, who one-hit the Indios and only allowed one walk while striking out four.

Ryan Battaglia (C, Brisbane Bandits - Game 2) - 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K - Battaglia picks up his first hit of Round 5 of the ABL season in the nightcap of Saturday's day-night doubleheader.  While his .209 AVG is near his .219 career ABL number, his OBP (.292 compared to .320) and SLG (.302/.435) are considerably lower.

Tim Fedroff (starting RF, Mayos de Navojoa) - 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K - Fedroff does nothing to hurt his case to teams seeking to sign the free agent with this stat line, easily his best of his winter season. He's been an IBI favorite for some time, so we hope he can land with a team soon.

Ben Shorto in the ABL League had his first outing as a starting pitcher this weekend for the Perth Heat against Sydney Blue Sox. He threw a no hitter into the bottom six innings. Allowed one hit, faced 19 batters, threw 72 pitches with 0 runs. He currently has an ERA of 0.93. Faced quality batters. Footage is via ABL TV on youtube. Looking for, Heat @ Blue Sox, R5/G4. Ben was released from the Indians June this year.
