Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Cleveland prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note, no Indians played in the Venezuela Winter League on Tuesday as there were only two games and no one participated. Other winter leagues will soon start up as the Dominican Winter League begins on October 17th and the Puerto Rico Winter League starts on October 30th.

Arziona Fall League

Francisco Lindor (DH) - 0-for-4. Lindor has had a good fall season so far batting .348/.400/.565 with 2 2B, 1 HR,and 3 RBI, though his 0-fer on the night dropped his batting average by 73 points. Such is the volatile nature of early season stat lines. On Tuesday night, however, it was a different story as he along with the rest of his teammates did not hit well.  Maybe the Javelinas just wore themselves out taking infield practice (the only AFL team to do so on the day) as they were shutout and held to three hits. All joking aside, this is all about experience for Lindor and working to finish him off, and this five week or so season in the AFL should have a nice hand in doing that.

Jordan Smith (LF) - 2-for-4, 1 K. Smith has been off to a weak start in the AFL this offseason, but had a huge night on Tuesday as he provided nearly all of the Javelinas' offense with two of their three hits. He has recorded a hit in five of his six games though has just the one extra base hit and has seven strikeouts in 25 at bats.

Path, You could be right on about Smith, but I don't think it is time to give up on him. The Indians must feel that the power will develop. He has good defensive skills and has made good contact in the past. Let it be.

I'm hoping to have one up soon. Puerto Rico and, if I recall correctly, Australia don't start for a while, so those assignments may not have been finalized yet. I hope the Tribe didn't assign anybody to a lower tier Caribbean League (Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Veracruz) as those rosters can be hard to find.

Like many prospects we have hopes for, Smith is proving that he probably just doesn't have what it takes to keep moving up. With almost no power, questionable ability to make contact and a very inconsistent BA/OBP, I'd say the future is not looking so good for him.

This is probably already in the works, but will IBI be posting a comprehensive list of which Tribe farmhands are playing in the various winter leagues? Thanks!
