Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Arizona Fall League (AFL) and the Caribbean Leagues. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)

Ronny Rodriguez (Estrellas Orientales, PR-backup 3B) - no plate appearances, Caught Stealing 1 time - Ronny Rod has appeared in both Estrellas games thus far this season, but has yet to make a plate appearance. So far he's been used in a late inning pinch running role, which is similar to what happened early on last season in winter ball.

Gabriel Arias (Tigres del Licey, RP) - 1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R (earned), 1 K, 1 HR allowed - Not a great winter ball season debut for Gabriel, but most of the damage came on one pitch.

VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE (LVBP)

Giovanny Urshela (Aguilas del Zulia, 3B) - 3-6, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI - Gio Urshela continues to tear the cover off the baseball in Venezuela raising his slash line to .424/.424/.576 with 8 RBI in 7 games.  Yes, stats are a secondary concern in winter ball, but this level of performance so far is definitely encouraging to see.

Carlos Moncrief (Aguilas del Zulia, RF) - 1-4, 2 BB, 1 K - Moncrief ends his two game hitless streak with a solid outing in which he got on base three times.

Ramon Rodriguez (Caribes de Anzoategui, RP - Game 2) - 0.2 IP, perfect - Ram-Rod rebounds nicely from allowing a run in his last outing on Wednesday.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE (AFL)

Francisco Lindor (SS) - 0-5 - Lindor goes 0-5 for the second straight day.  It seems that the adjustment issues he experienced upon his promotion to Triple-A earlier in the year may be surfacing again in the AFL. It is also important to remember how young he is in such an advanced league of prospects.

Jordan Smith (CF) - 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K - Smith has a big day at the plate including a fourth inning single that scored two of Peoria's three runs in their 3-3 tie, the Javelinas' second of the season (AFL games end in a tie if tied after 11 innings).

Dylan Baker (SP) - ND, 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R (earned), 1 K - Baker takes consistency to a new level with a virtual carbon copy of his season debut line.

Grant Sides (RP) - H (1), 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K - While this may not seem like an eventful outing, he kept the game from getting away from the Javelinas.  Also, keep in mind regarding AFL pitching performance that many pitchers are having to pitch at a faster pace than they are accompanied to due to the pitch clock MLB is experimenting with in the AFL this offseason (I'm pretty sure a clock of any kind - other than the one showing the time of day - in baseball is a sign of the apocalypse).

I think if they get a great offer for Lindor- like a Will Myers, George Springer or Michael Taylor- they gotta go for it. Lindor is on everybody's top 10 prospect list but with w JRam and Erik Gonzalez at or near his talent/ value level you gotta deal him while he's still very highly thought of. We need one stud outfielder way more than we need 3 roughly equivalent shortstops.

Which of these leagues is the most advanced? And how do they compare to Minor League competition?

Maybe it's time to shut Lindor down for the year. He's played a lot of ball this year, and don't want to see him get hurt because his body is worn down. Give him a good conditioning program, send him home, and bring him back to Goodyear in mid-January. Get him ready for his May call-up. Maybe a few others too. Urshela, Moncrief perhaps.

Can someone give me a scouting report on Arias please? Is he someone that could help the big club or just roster filler?
