LAKE COUNTY, OHIO - After falling to The TinCaps on Saturday night, The Captains came out with an early run lead to take down Fort Wayne, 1-0. Sunday was also a dominating performance from starting right hander Dylan Baker.

Baker came in with a 4-5 record and a 4.01 ERA. He pitched through eight innings without allowing a hit, until second baseman Maxx Tissenbaum singled to right at the top of the seventh for the first hit of the game for The TinCaps.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been able to pitch eight innings in a game in my life, so it was pretty sweet.” said Baker. “I want to keep working on my change-up, everyone says I’ve got to work on that, and not walk anybody, that’s pretty much my main goal.”

Baker only allowed two hits, one walk and four strike outs in his eight innings, lowering his ERA to 3.63.

“This is huge,” said manager Scooter Tucker. “Obviously our offense still isn’t where we’d like it to be yet, so getting a pitching performance like that is huge.”

After third baseman Todd Hankins scored in the third on an RBI triple from shortstop Dorssys Paulino, the Captains had another strong inning during the top of the sixth. Despite two errors and catcher Rodney Daal making it to third on an error, Lake County held on and didn’t allow any runs to score off of those errors.

The Captains were able to continue their streak of holding men at home, only allowing two hits the entire game and keeping men off the bases. Baker’s strong performance was a factor, but strong fielding despite two errors was also a factor.

Right hander Josh Martin came in to relieve Baker after his strong eight innings. Martin held the TinCaps at home and helped capture the 1-0 victory for The Captains. Martin only allowed one hit and struck out one.

Sunday’s victory also brings Lake County to 6-5 on the second half of the season and is their first win in the last five games.

The Captains and The TinCaps are now tied 1-1 in the series, which finishes on Monday at 7:00pm at Classic Park.
