LOUISVILLE - The Clippers fell to the Louisville Bats in their first road game of the season on Friday night, 4-2.

Coming off a no decision in his first start of the season on Sunday, left hander Scott Barnes started for the Clippers. He struggled for most of the evening Friday as he was only able to go five innings, and allowed four earned runs and struck out six batters.

Bats' pitcher Travis Webb was awarded the win after only having to pitch one and a third inning. J.J. Hoover came into the game in the ninth and the Clippers gave him no trouble as he sat them down 1-2-3 and recorded his second save of the season.

Columbus was able to put the first run of the game on the board after Cord Phelps hit a ground rule double to left field allowing Ezequiel Carrera to score in the fifth inning.  Later in the inning Chad Huffman recorded an RBI after hitting his second double of the season scoring Phelps.

In the bottom half of the fifth inning, Daryl Jones trotted home with the Bats first run of the game after stealing third and Clippers’ third basemen Lonnie Chisenhall had an error on the play. The Bats continued to bring the hurt in the inning as Chris Valaika smoked a two-RBI double to left to drive in Corky Miller and Kristopher Negron.

After scoring three runs in the fifth, the Bats came back and did more damage in the sixth.  Todd Frazier scored on a groundball to shortstop Gregorio Petit, putting the Bats up 4-2.  Four runs was all the Bats needed as the Clippers were held scoreless from the fifth inning on.

After dropping the opener of their road trip, the Clippers will look for redemption on Saturday against the Bats. First pitch is scheduled in Louisville at 6:05 EST.
