Eastlake - The Lake County Captains (3-1) came from behind in the eighth inning with two runs en route to a 2-1 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (1-3) on Sunday afternoon. The Captains won the final three games of the four game series after dropping the season opener.

For the Captains, right-hander Adam Plutko made his first professional start of his career on Sunday and he made a fantastic impression. He threw four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out three batters. On the other side of the field, Lansing starter Kendall Graveman matched Plutko punch-for-punch. Graveman threw five scoreless innings, allowing five hits, three walks along with four strikeouts.

After the starters departed, the bullpens were left to battle for the rest of the game. Southpaw Wander Beras held the Lugnuts at bay with two innings of shutout ball, while lefty Griffin Murphy held the Captains off the board for one and two thirds innings.

The Lugnuts struck first in the seventh inning with a run off of Captains reliever Ben Heller (1-0, 4.50). Lansing loaded the bases with two hits and a walk. Shortstop Dawel Lugo plated a run with an infield single to break the scoreless tie.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Captains loaded the bases against Murphy with two outs before Lugnuts manager Jose Tamargo Jr. made the call to the pen. Right-hander Brady Dragmire (1-1, 6.75) entered the game and ended the rally.

The Captains once again loaded the bases in the eighth inning with no outs. First baseman Nellie Rodriguez grounded into a double play, but in the process, catcher Eric Haase scored the tying run. Tamargo Jr. made another call to the bullpen to bring in Jimmy Cordero. Right fielder Jorge Martinez plated third baseman Grant Fink with a single to give the Captains a 2-1 lead.

Trevor Frank retired the Lugnuts in order to lock down his first save of the season.

Heller allowed one run on three hits in two innings of relief, winning his first game of the year. Dragmire was hung with the loss after giving up two runs in one inning of work.

Lake County outhit the Lugnuts 9-8 on the afternoon. Left fielder Brian Ruiz and Martinez led the Captains with two hits each.

After an off day on Monday, the Captains will resume play on the road in Clinton, Iowa. They will open up a three game series on Tuesday against the Clinton LumberKings. RHP Mitch Brown (0-0, 0.00) will take the mound for the Captains while RHP Tommy Burns (0-0, 0.00) will start for the LumberKings. First pitch is 7:30 PM from Ashford University Field.
