The Captains defeated the Lugnuts 13-0 on Thursday, grabbing their fifth win in a row. Lake County had as many hits as they had runs and held Lansing from coming around to home even once throughout the night.

A strong fifth inning helped the Captains really capture the victory, scoring seven runs on seven hits alone in that inning. They also drew a walk and two players were hit by pitches.

Dorssys Paulino slammed his third home run of the season early during the first inning to give Lake County a quick start against Lansing. But in the fourth inning, the Captains really took control, scoring four runs, including a two-run double from Anthony Santander

Overall between Wednesday’s victory over Lansing and Thursday’s 13-0 shutout, the Captains have 34 hits. The Captains are also up 3-0 in the four-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts, which finishes in Lansing on Friday night.

Right-hander Ryan Merritt started for the Captains and grabbed his fifth win of the season. He only allowed five hits in seven shutout innings. Benny Suarez played the eighth and D.J. Brown closed in the ninth, neither allowing any run scored.

Lansing started right hander Javier Avendano, followed by Kramer Champlin, and then Tucker Donohue. Avendano allowed seven hits, while Champlin allowed six.

The series against Lansing finishes Friday night at 7:05p.m. Lake County will start right-hander Dylan Baker, who pitched eight shutout innings in his last start.
