Fort Wayne, IN - The Captains got rolling out of the gate on Saturday night and finished with a 9-1 win to take two out of three against the Fort Wayne Tincaps.

Joe Ross, a former first round draft pick, was the starter for the Tincaps against the Captains. The Captains got to him immediatelyas centerfielder LeVon Washington led off the game with a double down the left field line. Shortstop Francisco Lindor reached base on an infield single, moving Washington to third. Lindor stole second base and designated hitter Alex Monsalve walked to load the bases, and then third baseman Leonardo Castillo drove in Washington with a sacrifice fly to center field. Left fielder Bryson Myles walked to re-load the bases and then catcher Alex Lavisky plated Lindor and Monsalve with a two out, two run single to left field. Jerrud Sabourin finished off the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to give the Captains a 4-0 lead after half an inning.

The Captains started right-hander Will Roberts, a fifth round draft pick in 2011 out of the University of Virginia. He ran into a little bit of trouble in the first ining as Tincaps shortstop Jace Peterson led off with a double to left field. Left fielder Donovan Tate would single home Peterson to score the only Tincaps’ run of the game.

The battering of Tincaps pitching continued in the second inning. Washington led off with a walk and Lindor singled to move him to third. Rodriguez reached on an infield single to load the bases and then two batters later Castillo drove in Washington with an RBI single that knocked Ross from the game. Ross lasted just one and a third innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.

Luis De La Cruz entered the game for the Tincaps, but the runs kept coming for the Captains as a passed ball by catcher Matthew Colantonio allowed Lindor to score. De La Cruz then gave up a sacrifice fly to Myles scoring Rodriguez to give the Captains a 7-1 lead after two innings.

The Captains added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Myles, and the final run of the night came in the sixth inning courtest of a throwing error by Tincaps second baseman Casey McElroy as he threw the ball away on a Myles single which allowed Rodriguez to score.

Roberts finished the game by going six innings and earned the win giving up one run on four hits. He struck out two and walked three. Right-handed reliever Jordan Cooper followed Roberts to the mound in the seventh inning and gave up one hit and struck out one in his one inning of work.

Left-handed reliever Kyle Petter made his 2012 debut by going two innings to close out the game for the Captains, and struck out four and allowed one hit and hit one batter.

The Captains pounded out 13 hits and everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit except for second baseman Robel Garcia. Lindor went 3-for-4 with two runs and a walk and Monsalve went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.

The Captains are off on Sunday for the Easter holiday and will then travel to Midland, Michigan to face the Great Lakes Loons on Monday night. First pitch is 6:05 from Dow Diamond.
