Captains snap four game skid, win 4-3
After four straight losses, the Captains grabbed a 4-3 victory over the Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon. With the , it brought Lake County to a 13-10 record for the second half of the season and it's also their first win on their six game road trip throughout Wisconsin.
The Timber Rattlers and The Captains were at a stalemate for much of the game at 0-0 until Wisconsin came out swinging in the bottom of the fifth, tacking on their only three runs of the game. Those runs came from left fielder Victor Roache, first baseman Garrett Cooper and catcher Parker Berberet.
The Captains came back for a fight in the top of the seventh, scoring one run. The top of the ninth was when the Captains really grabbed the lead and the win, scoring three more runs and taking the 4-3 victory.
The four Lake County runs were from center fielder Logan Vick, first baseman Joe Sever, pinch runner Erik Gonzalez and catcher Eric Haase. Sever’s run was a homer in the top of the ninth.
Two of the Timber Rattlers three runs were home runs, one from Roache and the other from Berberet. Both home runs came off Lake County starter Robbie Aviles. He pitched four and two thirds inning, allowing five hits, three runs, walked two and struck out one.
The Timber Rattlers started Jorge Lopez who pitched seven innings, allowing only three hits, one run, walked two and struck out four.
The Captains remain in Wisconsin for the final game of their six game road trip and their final game of the series against the Timber Rattlers, the game is set to start at 1:05pm.
