DAYTON, OH- The Lake County Captains (22-24, 45-68) used a three-run seventh inning to take the middle game of a three-game series with the Dayton Dragons (25-22, 53-63) on Thursday night. A big inning late in the game has been the key so far in the series.

The Captains sent Felix Sterling to the mound for his second start and 37th appearance of the season. The Dragons countered with southpaw Ishmael Guillon for the start.

The start of the game was delayed for 43 minutes due to inclement weather before the game.

Second baseman Sammy Diaz opened the home half of the first with his third home run of the year to give the Dragons an early 1-0 lead.

Dayton plated one more run in the fourth inning. Wednesday night’s hero and left fielder Jesse Winker hit a one-out double to left field. First baseman Seth Mejias-Brean followed with a single to move Winker to third. Third baseman Tanner Rahier drove Winker home with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Guillon had a no-hitter through four innings despite five walks. Left fielder Nick Hamilton singled to start the fifth inning to break up the no-no.

Dayton was the first team to make a pitching change. Guillon threw five scoreless innings with one hit and five walks. Tony Amezcua entered for the sixth inning.

Sterling was relieved by Luis DeJesus in the sixth inning. His final line was five innings, five hits, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

Amezcua pitched two scoreless innings before giving way to Jesus Adames in the eighth. The Captains would tie the game off of Adames. Third baseman Joe Sever reached on a leadoff error by the Dragons. A walk and a sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position. Center fielder Aaron Siliga plated both runs with a two-run single to center field to end Adames’ night.

Werleen Taveras entered to pitch in a tie game. Taveras gave up a single and a walk to load the bases with one out. Second baseman Zack MacPhee broke the tie with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Siliga. Lake County had their first lead of the night at 3-2.

Adames took the loss, after he allowed three runs (one earned) in one third of an inning. Taveras finished the game with one and two thirds innings of shutout ball.

DeJesus earned his fifth win of the season, with two and two thirds innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed three hits and one walk.

Grant Sides picked up his fifth save with one and two thirds innings off keeping the Dragons off the board. Sides now has an ERA of 0.63 in nine games in Lake County.

The Captains were outhit 10-3 on the night but they walked 10 times though. The bottom of the order had the three hits. Siliga, Hamilton and first baseman Leo Castillo all had a single. Castillo went 1-for-4 in his first game back in Lake County since July 2nd.

Lake County will look for a series win in the final game of the series on Friday night. RHP Jake Sisco (4-9, 4.39) will toe the rubber for Lake County against RHP Nick Travieso (5-3, 5.10) for Dayton. First pitch from Fifth Third Field is set for 7:00 p.m.
