After losing the first two games of the three game home series to the Loons, the Captains fell once again to the Loons on Friday night, 6-2. This brings their second half season record to 5-4, after starting out 5-1 on the road.

Starting with two innings of slow progress, the Loons were not playing around at the start of the third when they scroed six runs alone in the top of that inning to take a huge lead over the Captains, which they could not come back from.

Many missed opportunities to make outs left the Captains at a 6-0 deficit early on, even though none of Lake County’s mistakes were considered errors. The Captains struggles in the third also led to manager Scooter Tucker’s ejection after the inning was finished, which was the first ejection of the 2013 season for any member of the Captains team.

The Loons started 16-year old left hander Jurio Urias, who came into Friday’s game 1-0 with a 3.74 ERA. Urias also had six strikeouts only through the third inning. The Captains started right hander Jake Sisco, who has a 4-5 record at 3.00 ERA so far this season.

Despite having five hits, the Captains could not really capitalize on any of their opportunities to bring runs home, only bringing in one run and fell to the Loons for the third night in a row.

Right hander D.J. Brown came in to relieve for Sisco, and made quite the attempt at a comeback for the Captains, striking out three of the first four batters he faced.

The Captains made several attempts to compete with The Loons late in the game, but they just couldn’t bring men around to home as well as Great Lakes had been throughout the night. Several strikeouts, pop flys and ground outs commanded the Captains to only two runs the entire night.

The Captains continue their home stand against Fort Wayne at 7pm Saturday night.
