DAYTON, OH - The Lake County Captains (6-2) got a lot of offense and took advantage of great pitching to defeat the Dayton Dragons (2-6) by the final score of 11-2 Friday evening. Similar to many of the previous games on the current road trip, the Captains managed to score first in this contest.

In the top of the third inning, with two out and nobody on base, shortstop Ivan Castillo hit his first home run of the season off of Nick Travieso (6-4, 3.74 ERA). Right fielder Logan Vick then followed Castillo by working a walk. After Vick walked, Claudio Bautista made Travieso pay by driving in Vick with a triple to right. The clutch hit by Bautista gave the Captains an early 2-0 lead.

Lake County continued to add to its lead by batting around in the top of the fourth inning. After successfully retiring the first two batters he faced in the frame, Travieso failed to record another out before the Captains had a big inning.

Third baseman Grant Fink got the Captains started with a single to right. After Travieso hit catcher Richard Stock with a pitch and walked Cody Farrell to load the bases, Travieso got Ivan Castillo to hit a pop up that should have ended the inning. However, Dragon first baseman Daniel Pigott dropped the ball and Fink was able to score from third. Vick then capitalized on the crucial error by driving in Stock and Ferrell with a single to center.

The Captains would add two more runs in the inning off of a throwing error by Travieso and a RBI single by Bautista. In total, Lake County scored five runs in the inning and increased its lead to 7-0.

The Captains officially put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth inning by batting around for the second time. First baseman Nellie Rodriguez led off the inning with a single to left.

Dorssys Paulino then followed Rodriguez with a double that put runners on second and third with nobody out. Fink then drove in Rodriguez and Paulino with his first triple of the season. After Stock was hit by a pitch for the second straight plate appearance and Ferrell worked a walk, Vick drove in Fink with a single.

The Captains would finish their scoring for the inning after Bautista grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Stock to score from third. The big inning stretched the Captains lead to 11-0.

Travieso's night ended after Fink's triple. Travieso took the loss after he pitched four innings, gave up nine hits, ten runs, five earned runs, two walks and struck out eight.

Mitch Brown (1-6, 3.77 ERA) got his first win of the season after he pitched 5.1 innings, gave up three hits, no runs, walked two, and struck out five.

The Captains will look to stay hot when they continue their series with the Dragons Saturday evening. Lake County is scheduled to start Jordan Milbrath (2-8, 3.39 ERA) while Dayton is scheduled to counter with Jackson Stephens (0-0, 6.75 ERA).
