Captains win sixth straight, beat Lansing 7-3
The Captains took down The Lugnuts for the fourth night in a row, defeating Lansing 7-3 Friday night. The win also brings Lake County's current winning streak to six wins in a row.
Right hander Dylan Baker had another stand out start Friday. After having eight scoreless inning in his last start, Baker had another five and two thirds innings of good pitching not allowing an earned run. Friday’s win makes Baker 6-5 on the season with a 3.40 ERA.
The Captains had another strong start, scoring in the top of the first to take an early lead. They scored another run in fifth, and four more runs in the seventh. The Lugnuts made an attempted come back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but were held from coming close to the Captains lead.
Other than Baker, several other Captains also had a good night. Both Logan Vick and Yhoxian Medina scored two runs a piece, plus one run from each of Todd Hankins, Dorssys Paulino and Joe Sever. Both The Lugnuts and The Captains had seven strikeouts on the night, while Lake County had nine hits and Lansing had six.
The Lugnuts started left hander Alonzo Gonzalez, who only pitched four innings and took the loss on Friday bringing him to 2-9 on the season. The Captains are now 11-5 on the second half of the season and are in first place in the Midwest League. The Captains return to Classic Park on Saturday night for a 7pm start against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
