BOWIE - The Akron Aeros defeated the Bowie Baysox, 5-4, in an eleven-inning match sealing a three-series victory Wednesday at Prince George Stadium.

It would be Aeros' designated hitter Chun Chen who would bring home the winning run in the top of the eleventh inning with a line drive up the middle to score catcher Michael Hernandez.  Chen went 3-for-6 with two RBI’s on the night and is now batting .323.

Akron started off strong in the second inning putting two runs on the board. Infielder Adam Abraham tapped a grounder to center field for a single while designated hitter Nick Weglarz followed up with another single to the left side. Infielder Davis Stoneburner hit a big shot to center field for a line drive scoring both Abraham and Weglarz for an early 2-0 lead.

Right-hander Steven Wright, who has an ERA of 1.82, pitched his longest outing of the season battling the Baysox for 7.1 innings.  In 30 batters faced, Wright allowed two runs, struck out five and walked one.

But it would be reliever Rob Bryson who would take home the win for the Aeros in the eleventh.  In his first win of the season, the right-hander faced ten batters allowing one hit and struck out one.

Both teams went scoreless for four innings until in the bottom of the ninth inning Ronnie Welty and Travis Adair of the Baysox cranked out a pair of doubles. Combined with an error by third baseman Kyle Bellows, Bowie put a run on the board making the score 3-3.

In the first of the extra innings, Chen started the Aeros off with a soft line drive single to the right side.  Abraham kept it going with a base hit to right field getting Chen to second. Outfielder Thomas Neal smacked a line drive up the middle earning the RBI with Chen reaching the plate.

The Curve returned the offense also putting a run on the board in the bottom of the tenth inning making the score 4-4.

First up for the Aeros in the top of the eleventh was Hernandez who hit a double off a fly ball hit to right field. Infielder Ben Copeland sacrifice bunted Hernandez to third base, and then Chen followed with his second RBI of the night making the final score 5-4.

Akron will start left-hander Giovanni Soto in their next homestand against the Altoona Curve Friday April 27 at Canal Park.
