Clippers extend streak to four, beat RailRiders 5-3
The Clippers outhit Scranton 9 to 6 on Saturday.
COLUMBUS, OH – The Clippers racked up their fourth win against the Scranton RailRiders Saturday night. One game away from the sweep, Columbus took the victory 5-3.
Toru Murata started on the mound for the Clippers and the RailRiders jumped on the board eRly in the first. After giving up a initial single to Antoan Richardson, Richardson stole second with one out. Murata let up a second single that brought Richardson in to score to put Scranton up.
Top of the second and the Clippers rallied back for the tie.Giovanny Urshela came up with a ground rule double to start things off. Carlos Moncrief followed with a double of his own, moving Urshela to third. After two outs Matt Carson smacked a RBI single to left field, sending Urshela home to even things up.
Murata could not keep the RailRiders off the board for long though. With one out Murata left one hanging for a deep triple to right field. A sac-fly gave Scranton the edge going into the third, 2-1.
The back and forth rolled on as the Clippers kept coming back. Top of the third and Jesus Aguilar led off with a grounder out to center, Urshela followed with an identical single to put two on base.
Moncrief ultimately hit into a ground out to bring Aguilar home to once again tie everything up.
Almost like déjà vu bottom of the third and Murata gave up a triple, followed up by an RBI to put the RailRiders back on top, 3-2.
With everything scoreless through the seventh the win seemed unrealistic for the Clippers, but in the eighth a huge rally brought them back. Elliot Johnson led off with a double to get on base and was then brought in with two outs by Moncrief's bomb to right field. The two run homer propelled the Clippers to a 4-3 lead.
With a one run lead Audy Ciriaco went yard to left field, putting the Clippers up 5-3.
The Clippers will wrap up their series with the RailRiders Sunday before heading back to Huntington Park Monday afternoon facing off against the Lehigh Valley.
