Extra innings has been a common theme for the Lake Erie Crushers and Sunday night in Evansville was another late game as the Crushers came out on top 9-8 in 14 innings.

It took 14 innings to find a hero, but new Crusher Craig Hertler was the difference with his RBI single that scored Wes Meadows from third. The game winning hit was Herler's third of the night as the Crushers exploded for 16 hits.

Falling behind 5-0 in the first inning, the Crushers rallied all game long to come back in this one. All star Matt Rein worked through a tough start to keep Lake Erie within striking distance in the game.

Rein has seven earned on the night as the Crushers' comeback was led by a cast of Russell Moldenhauer with four hits and Juan Sanchez with a two RBI double early in the ball game.

Trailing 7-6 in the eighth, the Crushers took advantage of some bad pitching on a balk and a wild pitch to grab an 8-7 advantage.

Dale Dickerson came on in the bottom of the ninth to close the door, but was unable to lock down the win. After getting two outs with one man on, Dickerson gave up a long single that scored the Otters' John Schultz from second.

In two innings of work, Dickerson walked three batters and a hit. Michael Jahns gave Lake Erie three solid innings of work to earn the win as he allowed no hits, one walk and three strikeouts to keep the Otters out.

Mickey Jannis earned his second save of the year to close out Evansville to move the Crushers to 32-29 and two games behind Southern Illinois.

The Crushers will play a double-header at 5:05 EST against Evansville.
