Crushers no-hit by Gateway
A night after getting a big win over first place Gateway, the Crushers suffered a devastating 9-0 loss Saturday night and were no-hit by the Grizzlies' Tim Brown.
The Crushers had no answer for Brown as he dominated Lake Erie's lineup from top to bottom as he walked two batters and struck out four. Behind him, the Gateway defense gave him little help as the Crushers did get aboard on three errors.
Two of the errors came in the ninth and did not really have an effect on the Grizzlies chances of winning, but Brown's chances as something rare. In the ninth, Seth Granger and Daniel Bowman reached on errors, but Brown prevailed for history.
All star Dave Middendorf took his first outing after the break and struggled early on in the game, but settled in. Middendorf pitched seven innings and got the loss on five earned runs on eight hits.
Nothing was working right for the Crushers as the team's best reliever Ben Klafczynski has his worst outing of the season. In just .2 of an inning, Klafczynski walked three and gave up a hit as four runs came across on his watch.
Lake Erie will look to bounce back to win the rubber match of this weekend series at 7:05 EST Sunday.
